Q. Please give us a brief about your company?
Senko is a supplier of connectivity solutions to the fiber industry. We produce connectors and adapters and we supply cable assemblies from patch cords to FTTA trunk cables. We supply splitters, WDMs, and other passive components. We offer a full range of installation and maintenance tools. We offer a small range of specialist cables and we are able to help with cable sourcing. We also offer consulting and training services.
Q. What are your company’s solutions for FTTH Networks? Which vertical markets do you serve?
We’re a component supplier; we work with our partners to supply solutions. Our partners are generally working in FTTH, FTTA or data center applications, but we are also finding more fiber applications in medical, security, audio visual and other industries.
Q. In your experience, is the application of triple play a sign that voice, data and video convergence will be the trend on a large scale? What are the future prospects of triple play?
Yes of course. It’s a passing phase actually; I expect we’re going to get beyond triple play. It’s an intermediate goal. From the consumer side, it might be a driver in the short term, but when we get to 2020 we’ll be far beyond that. It’ll be about ubiquity and we might not see a telephone at home at all.
Q. What kind of network infrastructure do you recommend to support triple play and/or growing data needs?
Fiber is the only future-proofed infrastructure investment.
Q. Do you think fiber might replace copper for networks generally?
Yes, eventually. Fiber installation costs will continue to fall. Trunk cable diameters dropped by around 75% from 2008 to 2011 and now bend insensitive fibers mean easier installation. With the latest cables it is possible to install fiber to and in the home as easily as telephone or coax cables.
Q. How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?
Quality and innovation. We have over 250 employees worldwide, including 30 to 40 engineers constantly developing new products and checking for quality. We’re always looking to add value and make the end user’s job easier.
