Published May 10, 2012

Google pays tribute today to the great Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar with a special doodle to commemorate his birthday. Running on Google’s homepage across the Middle East and North Africa region on May 10th, the doodle features one of Mokhtar’s, and Egypt's, most famous sculptures, Egypt's Renaissance (Nahdet Misr) incorporating Cairo’s skyline in the background.

Google has recently commemorated many occasions and celebrities of the Middle East including Kuwait National Day, Tunisian National Day, Mother’s day, Egypt parliamentary Elections and the birthdays of Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Ibn Battuta, Ismail Yassin, Abdel Halim Hafez's, Ibn Khaldun’s, Sayed Darwish, Khalil Gibran, Taha Hussein, Umm Kalthum, Nageeb Mahfouz and many others.
