Red Hat Open Innovation Labs Opens in London to Jumpstart Application Development with Open Source and DevOps

Published May 21, 2017

Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the opening of Red Hat Open Innovation Labs in London - its first in EMEA - to help customers integrate people, methodology, and technology to catalyze innovation and solve business challenges in an accelerated fashion. Red Hat Open Innovation Labs enable customers to work collaboratively in a residency-oriented lab environment with Red Hat experts. This consultative experience is designed to help customers jumpstart innovation and software development initiatives using open source technology and DevOps methods either at the new physical lab in London or in a pop-up lab at a customer’s site.

With digitalization enabling new business innovation platforms, many organizations are looking to develop and integrate applications but may not have the tools to begin. Red Hat Open Innovation Labs provides a prescriptive environment designed for customers to develop applications with speed, agility, scalability and increased security. During a Red Hat Open Innovation Labs engagement, customers can use microservices, deploy them in containers and deliver them using DevOps methodologies across physical, cloud and mobile environments to more quickly scale up or down on-demand and help meet new requirements.

Red Hat Open Innovation Labs launched in 2016 to offer customers an immersive experience offering a dedicated consulting service during an 4-12 week residency that helps companies integrate people, methodology, and technology to solve business challenges. Through Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, customers can take advantage of mentoring and technology to help their organization rapidly accelerate business initiatives through technology, whether working on creative new digital applications or modernization initiatives, such as moving a monolithic application to a modern microservices architecture. A customer already taking advantage of the labs in EMEA is easiER AG, a leading Swiss digital startup healthcare company. easiER AG is using Red Hat Open Innovation Labs to develop new, disruptive applications to make medical resources more accessible and enable the medical community to deliver care more efficiently and effectively.

Through the residency, customers will have the opportunity to:

Spend more time developing with a cloud-native push-button infrastructure that allows for feature development from day one.
Enable accelerated feature releases with continuous delivery using a deployment pipeline.
Access the full Red Hat portfolio for developing and testing on modular platforms.
Learn collaboratively with Red Hat experts and the larger open source community.
Apply DevOps knowledge as they learn it and work toward a Red Hat certification with a DevOps concentration.
Red Hat Open Innovation Labs’ team comprises experts from Red Hat Consulting, engineering, business units, and Global Services, with the goal of helping customers understand the open source approach to development, agile workflows, and how these can combine with open source tools to define a DevOps strategy. Red Hat Open Innovation Labs’ new facility in London is designed to foster a flexible and open way of working, down to the ability to move furniture and redesign the space to build your workspace.

Supporting Quotes

Jeremy Brown, director, Open Innovation Labs - EMEA, Red Hat “Red Hat Open Innovation Labs is about taking Red Hat’s open approach and providing it to customers to inspire a new way of working and equipping them to be able to bring change back to their organisations. We like to think of the labs as a start-up incubator for the enterprise, and we’re excited to have a dedicated facility in the heart of London.”

Dr. André Baumgart, Co-Founder, easiER AG “We wanted to release a new application that could disrupt the medical care market and allow patients to request critical services and care from their doctors via mobile. However, when in your day-to-day environment, it’s easy to let inbound requests sidetrack you from delivering above and beyond and creating disruptive technology. Red Hat Open Innovation Labs is a focused and intimate team engagement that helps us accelerate innovation—by providing the people, processes, and technologies to help tackle our challenge and make medical care more accessible. It’s amazing to work with people you've only just met to build something you've had in your mind for years!”
