du Reiterates Need For Collaboration On Broadband Proliferation At SAMENA

Published Nov 16, 2009
Presenting the keynote address at the recently-concluded South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA) Telecommunications Council conference in Istanbul, Turkey; Mr. Hatem Bamatraf, Senior Vice President of Network Development at du, reiterated the need for more dialogue within the industry, to increase broadband proliferation in the region.

Speaking to the assembled industry players, Bamatraf said: “Over the last decade or so, the telecom sector has grown exponentially in the SAMENA region. It is evident that telecommunication is a sector that has contributed significantly to the welfare and health of MENA economies.”

“Fuelled by this reality, today, operators like du compete with industry peers using cutting-edge next generation networks (NGN) and other innovative products and services. These products and services have set benchmarks and defined the market that we now operate in. None of this however would have been possible without industry collaboration, integration, and sharing of knowledge,” he added.

With the evident exponential increase in data usage, telecom operators today are recognising the growing significance and relevance of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) as a critical ingredient in setting up a robust telecommunications infrastructure, and as a force in driving go-to-market advantage across platforms.

du, as a quad-play service operator, has realised the significance of FTTH and has committed to building a network to meet the evolving needs of the telecom industry.

In conclusion, Bamatraf emphasized the need for the industry to engage in constant dialogue, to enable it to keep up with the rapid changes in the telecom environment. Accordingly, all players can adapt, adopt, and transform their operating models, to maintain competitive advantage and grow the region further.
