Huawei Reinforces The Role Of Communications As A Gateway To A Prosperous Future

Published Nov 22, 2009
The world stands helpless before the challenges of the economic downturn, watching the fall of the financial, economic and vital sectors, and reaching the limits of its socio-economical stability. Yet the threat remains as long as policies and solutions are set within an experimental and narrow framework.
Most companies have exhausted their first – and quickest – line of defense, starting with laying off dispensable workers and employees, to salary cuts and elimination of various benefits in order to limit costs and expenses.
However, challenges remain, mostly related to the existing and unchangeable work environment.

The troubled business environment resulting from the global economic downturn has led to a drastic change in business sectors, particularly in the departments of operations, investment and human resource. Companies and establishments aim at increasing their efficiency on one part, and ensuring their continuity on the other. As a result, there will be many more instances of thousands of employees being laid-off, and banks and financial institutions filing for bankruptcy in the days to come.

In fact, economic and financial experts even project that the world will reach a state of economic exhaustion far worse then the situation witnessed after the end of World War II.

According to Ihab Ghattas, Assistant President of Huawei in the Middle East, a leader in providing next generation telecommunication networks, the telecommunication sector has provided cost saving, efficient and highly productive solutions for business environments across all sectors worldwide. The solid and modern communication infrastructure, while varying from one country to another, alleviates significant expenses on businesses, regardless of their activity, as they were forced to reconsider their overall expenditure.

Furthermore, companies have started to re-evaluate their internal processes to optimize the use of resources, particularly in telecommunication infrastructure as it provides tools and applications capable of achieving a significant decrease in costs and expenses. More importantly, this will inevitably lead to an increase in performance and efficiency, as company with solid and modern telecommunication infrastructures, supported by the general infrastructure of the country, are capable of increasing their internal and external communications at a lower cost through the use of internet and e-communication tools such as emails and video conferencing. This will limit the waste of valuable resources related to time and expenses, and positively influence the work environment on the long run.

Mobile conferencing and communications will limit unnecessary travels and meetings, because of the comprehensive network of fiber optics deployed across the United Arab Emirates. In fact, Huawei captures a considerable share of the optical network for Etisalat delivered directly to households in the UAE, supporting the growing need for high bandwidth in the local residential and corporate markets, and providing other contemporary services such as remote training, education, videos, TV, IP, Video conferencing and high speed data transfers. Furthermore, femtocell solutions from Huawei allow users to enjoy high bandwidth data transfer from their homes.

It is true that we cannot evaluate exactly the role of communication in limiting unnecessary expenses in the company, because of its variety across sectors and working environment. However, we can provide a better overview if we measure the impact of such measures on individuals and their needs to accomplish their daily tasks including applications, follow up, accreditation, official and banking activities, which are almost all available under one communication form at least, whether phone, or websites or ATMs.

Each individual is capable of measuring the exact contribution of telecommunication solutions and applications, to limit expenses and waste of resources, and apply it on the bigger scale of companies and establishments.
On the other hand, we have not yet considered the issue of the employee’s absence in order to accomplish external tasks related to bank or governmental procedures. This is an important and crucial issue, which greatly varies from one company to another, as some studies consider that the company should be responsible for the “absence cost” created by the employee who is away from his working station. Most often, such leaves are not deducted from the employee’s salary since they are justified. Hence, the time spent to complete work-related processes represents a direct loss of income for companies.

Communication represents the gateway for business to a prosperous future. The earlier companies venture in its integration with work processes through various tools and applications, the sooner they will recover from the global economic crisis by creating healthy, efficient and active working environments.
