The Oman construction industry is expected to hit OMR 1.57 billion by 2013 – a 2.7 per cent annual increase, and is likely to remain high according to Business Monitor International (BMI), a leading research company in the Middle East. Amidst rapidly expanding population and demand for infrastructure projects, OMNIX International, a leading regional technology service provider and integrator in the Middle East and regional distributor of Autodesk products, is eyeing the growing demand for more cost effective and resource-efficient buildings and infrastructure in the Sultanate. In line with this, the company, in partnership with value added reseller IMTAC LLC is set to unveil the ‘Autodesk Revit 2010’ software portfolio in Oman during a ceremony to be held on Sunday, 13th December 2009 at the Hotel Grand Hyatt, Muscat.
The report also estimates that the construction industry in Oman will account for 5.2 per cent of the GDP in 2009, which represents real growth of 2.67 per cent year-on-year. In addition, a review of the current trends revealed that technology is a crucial factor in the development of buildings, infrastructure and transportation facilities amidst the growing clamour of sustainability. Leveraging the revolutionary ‘Building Information Modeling’ (BIM) model, ‘Autodesk Revit 2010’ software portfolio can help enable building designers, civil engineers, contractors and investors more accurately visualize, simulate and analyze project performance, appearance and cost to create more resource-efficient buildings and infrastructure.
"Amidst the current economic climate, AEC firms in Oman need interoperable and flexible technology tools for building information modeling that can help them deliver projects more quickly and cost-effectively," said Dr. Jayant Deshpande, Director, OMNIX International LLC. "The 2010 versions of our software continue to deliver on the promise of BIM by further bridging communication between extended design and construction teams. These powerful tools will help our customers more efficiently and productively solve their design and construction challenges and do so with reduced environmental impact."
The updated software in Autodesk's BIM portfolio includes 2010 versions of popular products including Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, and Revit MEP. Designed to help increase industry adoption of the BIM process, products under Autodesk’s 2010 portfolio is focused on helping project teams across disciplines to innovate, analyze energy performance and increase productivity. The company also revealed its strategy, which involved educating AEC companies in the Sultanate on how investing in BIM can help them visualize more accurately, while simulating and analyzing project performance, appearance and costs to create more resource-efficient buildings and infrastructure.
“The BIM model and ‘Autodesk Revit 2010’ solutions hold extensive potential to help architecture, engineering and consultancy firms in Oman in creating and profiting from digital design data and better communication across extended project teams. By partnering with OMNIX in driving the latest version of ‘Autodesk Revit’ in the Sultanate, we are supporting the Omani Government’s ‘Vision 2020’ initiative, which involves the construction of ten new resorts across the country within the next five years as well as extensive airport developments and upgrades, as part of an aggressive plan to strengthen and diversify the local economy,” concluded Bernard Fernandes, Manager - Enterprise Accounts, IT Division, IMTAC LLC.
