Top Delegation Visits Dubai Airport Freezone

A top ranking delegation from Japan’s NYK Line visited the Dubai Airport Freezone recently to learn what benefits are on offer to investors.

Mr Yasumi Kudo, President of NYK Line, led a nine-man delegation which comprised representatives of NYK offices in Dubai, other Gulf countries and Istanbul. “NYK Line is an international marine transportation business company; it is also involved in cruises, terminal and harbor transport, shipping-related services, real estate and other business. The company owns 779 vessels around the world. We are acquiring Boeing 747-400 aircraft and other jets thus our interest in the Dubai Airport Freezone.”

NYK Line, is the fastest-growing major carriers in the world according to The Journal of Commerce Magazine. The magazine reported in March that NYK gained import share and its ranking jumped five spots into eighth place. NYK is a comprehensive global-logistics enterprise offering ocean, land, and air transportation with revenue of AED 68 billion (Japanese yen 1,680 billion, as of October, 2009).

Mr. Nasser Al Madani, Assistant Director General of the Freezone, who welcomed Mr.. Kudo and members of his delegation said Japanese companies comprise the fastest growing segment of the 1,400 multinational companies in the Freezone. “The Japanese market has become a very important market for us and we are exerting efforts to attract more companies from Japan.”

Mr. Madani said as part of the Freezone expansion a new building which would provide additional 31.000 sqm of leasable space will be delivered by next year and as part of its second expansion programme, construction of eight new office buildings and a hotel would begin in 2011 which is expected to be complete by 2013 or 2014.

He added that Europe is traditionally be the main market of the Freezone with 38 per cent of companies at the Freezone coming from European countries. “Majority of the companies at the Freezone are dealing in high value and low volume products such as cosmetics and jewellery business.”

After an exchange of souvenirs with |Mr. Madani, the Japanese delegation was taken on a tour of the Dubai Airport Freezone companies.
