Wireless Chargers Headed For The Mid East

Published Jan 11, 2010

LAS VEGAS, Nevada: Wireless charging firm Powermat is in talks with retailers and distributors in the Middle East as it sets about rolling out the latest version of its charging devices to the global technology market.

The initial device, which was compatible with a limited range of mobile handsets, was embedded in a replacement case which when placed on the mains connected mat distributes power to the individual devices.

For 2010, the firm will be launching some upgrades that Ron Ferber, president of Powermat, said will improve on the "freedom and convenience" of the initial range, with the wireless charging technology contained in a replacement battery.

"While our initial line delivered on our promise to eliminate the hassle of plugging and unplugging, the assortment was limited to a handful of popular devices and charging environments," Ferber said. "For 2010 we've taken our product line to a whole new level through the successful miniturisation of of our technology."

The product was launched in the US, UK and Italy last October, and Stuart Burrows, Powermat's sales manager for Europe the Middle East and Africa, said it will reach the region later this year.

He said the firm is in talks with Sharaf DG to stock the the original devices which should go on sale "in the next couple of months", while wider distribution agreements should see the latest incarnation of the wireless charging solutions shipped across the Middle East from June.
