The strong response to Intersec trade fair and conference from the industry’s leading players reflects the increasing focus on security, health, safety, prevention and disaster management issues globally. For the first time Intersec trade fair and conference will enjoy support from Dubai Police, Dubai Police Academy, Abu Dhabi Police and the UAE Civil Defence. The event will be held from January 17 to 19 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Following the considerable success of last year’s conference programme, Intersec 2010 will bring together over 15 global and regional experts drawn from Security, Policing, Fire and Rescue and Safety backgrounds to discuss the latest developments and trends in their respective fields. Themed ‘Dealing with Disaster: Readiness, Response and Recovery,’ the conference will examine previous disasters, emergency situations and crises and the lessons to be learnt from them.
Major General Dr. Mohammad Ahmed bin Fahed, Director General, Dubai Police Academy, said: “Disasters cannot be avoided, but they can be anticipated and planned for and their effects can be minimised by proactive disaster-management programmes. Increasing societal awareness about hazards and putting in place effective response systems will go a long way to minimising the loss of life and property.” Dr. Bin Fahed will deliver the welcome address on the first day of the Intersec conference.
“The fast-growing economies of the Middle East present unique challenges to Fire and Rescue and Emergency Response units,” said Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director General, UAE Civil Defence. “With infrastructural projects coming up at a rapid pace, it is imperative for us to put in place safeguards, alarm systems, fireproofing measures and disaster prevention methods that meet international standards. Effective implementation of these safeguards across all sectors continues to pose challenges to local authorities in the region”.
Mr. Matroushi will be speaking on Strategic Integration between Dubai Civil Defence and Private Companies during the two day conference.
Safety & Health, with a focus on safety in the workplace, will be one of the pivotal issues addressed at the conference. Intersec 2010 will, for the first time, present an industry-led approach to the problem, with key experts driving the discussion and suggesting measures to enhance the workplace environment in the region.
With over 700 exhibitors drawn from as many as 50 countries, Intersec 2010 is the world’s largest safety and security event outside of Europe. It provides the key platform for industry leaders and service providers to network with the region’s industry experts and institutions and to gain access to the burgeoning Middle East market.
“Building on our success in the past, Intersec 2010 will continue to promote the implementation of global best standards in the industry,” said Mr. Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer, Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, organisers of the show. “As the leading meeting point for safety and security practitioners in the region, Intersec trade fair and conference 2010 is ideally placed to influence this change, by providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and discussing the latest trends and developments in the industry.”
Mr. Pauwels added: “Contributing to the regional and international success of Intersec is the strong support from Dubai Police and UAE Civil Defence as well as the patronage of H.H Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Intersec 2010 also enjoys the support of Ministry of Homeland Affairs, Singapore.”
New to the event this year is the first-ever “UAE International Firefit Championships”, supported by UAE Civil Defence and organised by 911 Firefighting and Firefit Canada. The Firefit competition was developed to showcase and promote physical fitness of firefighters. FireFit is about firefighters executing their important work in a safer and more effective manner. Teams of three to five fire fighters will compete against the clock in full gear (helmet, coat and pants with liners, boots, and gloves) while breathing from Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Intersec 2010 will once again showcase safety measures and prevention techniques in a special display area relating to safety procedures when working at heights. Also, new to this year’s event are the Commercial Security and Fire, Safety and Policing forums which will take place in Halls 2 and 7 and are open to trade visitors.
Expected to draw more than 17,000 trade visitors, the 12th edition of Intersec has been divided into four main categories: Commercial Security & IT Security,
