Du Brings Recently Released Movies To Its Video On Demand Customers In Partnership With On Demand Group

Published Jan 13, 2010

Du's latest service - Video on Demand brings to its TV customers a bouquet of recently released Arabic, Hollywood, and Bollywood blockbusters. The offering brings to customers the best in home entertainment with titles such as Dukkan Shehata, Friday the 13th, and Star Trek, along with Bollywood hits such as Billu Barber and Heroes.

The first of its kind service in the UAE was launched in December 2009 in collaboration with the three-screen video enabler for premier content - the UK-based On Demand Group.

Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, Du said: "Video on Demand is a UAE-market first and we chose On Demand Group for their superior expertise. With this service, customers can enjoy the movies of their choice at the click of a button. We are currently in the process of negotiating deals with content providers, to further add to the line-up."

On Demand Group will develop and maintain an on-demand library of top-rated studio and network television titles. Selections will include transactional Video on Demand content from major Hollywood studios and a range of subscription Video on Demand movies, series, documentaries, children's programmes and music videos.

"We are pleased to be working with Du on its Video on Demand service. This deal further demonstrates the content aggregation strategy that we have successfully developed in the UK, German speaking countries, southern Europe and now the Middle East, to provide increased efficiencies, cost savings, programming and marketing expertise and speed to multiple clients in multiple territories," said Tony Kelly, CEO, On Demand Group.

On Demand Group develops and manages the on-demand businesses of a growing roster of market-leading service providers including Virgin Media, 3 UK and, through its On Demand Deutschland joint venture, Telekom Austria and Unity Media - from day-to-day operations, to content library management, and full-service on-screen and off-screen marketing.

On Demand Group's London-based service and technology suite, including the exclusive VZ and Adrenalin content management platforms, is engaged wholly or in part by the service providers who are today proliferating high-quality streamed video to millions of cable, IPTV and mobile subscribers. The organisation produces and processes movies, programmes and promotions in English, German, Greek, Turkish and Arabic.

Du's Video on Demand service allows customers to browse through a catalogue of movies simply through a TV menu on their screen. Under categories including 'New Releases', 'Top Titles', 'Special Offers', 'Du recommends' and 'All Time Classics', Du IPTV subscribers are easily able to find the movie they are looking for, and can even watch the trailer before purchasing the film to view at their leisure. Once customers have chosen and confirmed the purchase by entering in their unique PIN code, the selected movies are then available on their TV for viewing within 48 hours.

Similar to viewing a DVD, customers can pause, rewind and fast-forward the action exactly when they want, empowering them to have full control over their viewing experience. To add to the convenience, movie-lovers enjoy a competitively-priced selection, depending on the particular category and whether it is Standard Definition (SD) or High Definition (HD), and will be charged for the service and the movies they select at the end of the month with one consolidated monthly bill.
