Photographers, both amateur and professional, can look forward to an exciting range of underwater camera options in 2010.
Photography has taken on a whole new meaning in the last decade and cameras are now used in the toughest of outdoor conditions by people of all ages," said Mr Roman Askari, Olympus' Head of Sales and Marketing for the Middle East.
"Accordingly, our research team has gone into overdrive to create a wide range of models in the Mju Tough series that combine superb photographic performance with the added advantages of being waterproof, shock proof and freeze proof.
Some of the models are waterproof to up to 10 metres, shock proof to falls up to two metres and freeze proof down to as low as minus 10°C."
First conceptualised as a compact, lightweight caseless camera characterised by softly curved surfaces and excellent grip, the ì[mju:] Series has evolved considerably with the introduction of optical zoom lenses, new features and further miniaturisation.
"The UAE is a much explored outdoor destination, and a lightweight camera that offers excellent quality reliable photography even in harsh environments is a distinct advantage.
We are getting several enquiries for cameras that can be used in underwater photography, especially during activities like diving or snorkelling without the worry of blurry images.
Olympus' µ[mju:] Touch-8000 that offers a CCD shift-type image stabilization system along with shock resistance is an excellent model for picture taking in such conditions," said Mr Vikas Jewoor Business Head E4U.
Mr Ayham Kalla, a UAE-based professional photographer and a tech geek, said, "When you are exploring the incredible range of coral and underwater sea creatures, It is important to have a camera that is slim and easy to hold and yet is tough to withstand the water and low temperatures.
I find the Olympus Mju series offers a wide range of options for such activities."
A spokesperson at Olympus also confirmed that the new range of cameras in 2010 will also focus on the ultra-zoom series.
Olympus produces cameras with 26 X optical zoom in the ultrazoom series which is the highest optical zoom presently available worldwide.
First launched in 2001 with a 10 X optical zoom lens, Olympus Ultra zoom series introduced photographers to the compact digital camera that made high-power zoom photography simple.
