G&D To Tighten Up BlackBerry Security

Published Jun 14, 2009
BlackBerry users in the Middle East will soon be able to improve security of their devices, with the launch of Giesecke & Devrient’s (G&D) new Mobile Security Card.

The card, which integrates with the upcoming BlackBerry Device Software 5.0, will provide strong authentication and encryption of communications and data for enterprise BlackBerry users.

The card, in microSD format, will slot into the handset, as an independent cryptographic module for authentication and encryption.

The card can be configured to implement a two-factor authentication process for users, helping to cut back on unauthorized access, and it can also be integrated into the customer’s mail server environment to provide encryption and signature services for e-mail traffic.

The data stored on the smartphone’s memory can also be encrypted, further reducing the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive information. The solution will be compatible with most popular communications suites, including Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise.

Amru Kotb, general manager of G&D, Egypt commented: “Security in mobile devices is an increasingly important topic in the field of mobile communication.

By developing a solution for the BlackBerry platform, we are able to meet all the security requirements of our business customers on all levels thanks to additional encoding.”
