Epson To Target Middle East Packaging Industry With Launch Of New Large Format Inkjet Printer

Published Jan 20, 2010

The Stylus Pro WT7900 features world’s first water-based white ink and uses Epson spectroproofer for consistent proofing results.

Epson has announced the Middle East launch of the 24” Stylus Pro WT7900 printer, a large format inkjet printer that features the world’s first white aqueous ink for packaging proofing and sample production.

The printer, which will be showcased during Epson’s participation at the Sign & Graphic Imaging Middle East 2010 and which will be held from January 25 to 27 at the Dubai Airport Expo, is the latest addition to Epson’s large format Stylus Pro Range of inkjet printers and is designed to meet specific standards in packaging proof applications.

The launch of the Stylus Pro WT7900 reinforces Epson’s strong commitment to the global packaging industry and complements the Middle East’s rapidly developing packaging segment.

The Stylus Pro WT7900 comes with key features like a sophisticated colour management and control system, wide gamut reproduction and precision printing on a wide variety of flexible film, paper, and metallic media—allowing for high-quality vivid prints that are essential for contract packaging proofs and accurate sample production.

The new printer uses Epson’s 9-Colour UltraChrome High Dynamic Rage (HDR) ink set to give users the ability to produce wide color gamut and accurate spot colors for their prints.

Epson’s newly developed water based white ink was specifically created for the Stylus Pro WT7900 to help deliver high density white tints and accurate overlays, which is an essential requirement needed for packaging proof applications.

The integral Epson SpectroProofer gives Stylus Pro WT7900 users automatic and precise colour management and control for reliable and consistent proof verification, colour calibration, colour certification, profile creation, spot colour matching, colour shift tracking and target measurement.

The latest large format inkjet printer can also print colour certification labels like the Fogra Wedge to support the packaging certification process.

All in all, the WT7900s colour management system enables users to easily integrate the printer into their production workflow on site and over a network of remote locations if required.

Epson’s MicroPiezo Thin Film Piezo (TFP) printhead delivers perfectly spherical dots with high precision dot placement and offers print resolutions of up to 2880 dpi.

Throughput is resulting in a maximum speed of up to 40m2/hr at the highest image quality important for packaging proofing applications where quality is of paramount importance.
The Stylus Pro WT7900 integrates a raft of technologies like integral automatic media rotary knife cutting system; a spindleless roll holder mechanism; an automatic paper set/release mechanism and Epson’s automatic nozzle check technology, giving users the assurance of ideal production and proofing applications.

Khalil El-Dalu, General Manager, Epson Middle East, said, “The Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 is the latest addition to our professional graphics range and has been designed specifically for the high-end packaging market, which is a fast growing segment in the Middle East.

We have implemented technologies and features to address the specific requirements of the market, backed by Epson quality, speed and reliability.

The launch of the WT7900 reflects our commitment to strengthen Epson’s relationship with various industry segments by introducing innovative and eco-friendly products and solutions, thereby consolidating our position in the region’s printer market.
