Delegation From UAE Air Force Visits Dubai eGovernment To Study eTransformation Process

Published Feb 7, 2010

Dubai eGovernment recently hosted a high profile delegation comprising 20 officers from the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, who were keen on getting an in-depth understanding of the eTransformation process in Dubai while also recognising the major developments in eServices offered on Dubai Government’s comprehensive web portal.

The visit featured discussions on the role of the Government Resource Planning (GRP) system in Dubai eGovernment, which provides a common infrastructure of centralised software and systems for all local departments of Dubai Government, with the underlying aim to achieve full integration among all these departments. The delegation was also briefed on the various electronic services, systems and centralised services, in addition to the methodologies and quality standards adopted, which together aim to restructure and automate government transactions in Dubai while also enhancing the effectiveness of e-services in the emirate.

During the visit, a detailed presentation was made highlighting Dubai eGovernment’s key achievements, stages of development and its establishment as an independent government department following the issue of law no 7 of 2009 by H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The presentation also highlighted the GITEX Dubai 2009 launch of Dubai eGovernment’s restructured portal, which adopted the innovative “Life-Event” approach.

Commenting on the visit, HE Ahmed Mohammed bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai eGovernment, said: “It is our pleasure to host the delegation from the UAE Air Force and Air Defence which was keen to study the methodologies and key strategies adopted by Dubai eGovernment in the provision of eServices to achieve the creation of an integrated knowledge-based society in accordance with the highest international standards. This, more importantly, complements the vision and directives of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

“Moreover, through such high-profile visits, Dubai eGovernment aims to strengthen our relations with all the government departments and authorities at the local and federal level, while also promoting mutual cooperation to expand the reach of our eServices. Dubai eGovernment is after all the ‘Bayt Al Khebrah’ (House of Expertise), and accordingly we are keen to share our knowledge services, expertise, evaluation criteria and best practices as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which in turn will reinforce Dubai’s leading position in the knowledge economy.”

The presentation also provided an overview of the shared eServices offered by Dubai eGovernment, which aims to enhance the quality of public services provided by the various government departments in the emirate. These services include the GRP system, which provides Dubai government departments with a user-friendly, integrated system of services to manage their financial, logistics and HR processes.

The eServices offered by Dubai eGovernment include online payment platforms such as ePay and mPay; eComplain, which is a unified complaint system for all government departments; eHost, which offers a centralised hosting facility for various government departments’ websites and portals; AskDubai, a unified call centre that allows the public to inquire about the services of Dubai government departments; mDubai, the government SMS service; eSurvey, an online tool used by government departments for surveys and to generate feedback; eLibrary; and GeSS, a system that analyzes the progress made in eTransformation in Dubai.

The official portal of Dubai Government (www.dubai.ae) allows citizens, residents, visitors and businesses to access more than 2,000 electronic services, such as payment of municipality fees, visa applications for relatives, health card renewal, company registration, and payments for Roads and Transport Authority fines.
