Published Feb 8, 2010

LG Electronics, a global leader and technology innovator, in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, has successfully implemented and executed a training programme to enhance human resources and empower UAE national cadre in the field of renewable energy. A total of six UAE nationals attended the course at LG’s headquarters in South Korea.

Focusing on environmental technology and related research, the training scheme highlighted a series of technological solutions available to the UAE. This included an introduction to several solutions including, but not limited to; Solar PV, effective refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Ground Source Geothermal Technology in HVAC, tidal energy, constructed Reed Wetland Resource Recovery and an overview of Korean Policies on Renewable Energy.

Commenting on the programme H.E Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water stated: "The ministry is keen on developing national cadres in the field of renewable energy and this program was one in a series of initiatives aimed at building qualified cadres in the areas of environment and renewable energies.

“While selecting candidates for the program, the ministry made sure that the shortlisted candidates represented different government bodies to ensure the diversity of skills. The government pays special attention to the development of national cadres as well as supplying state-of-the-art environmental technologies to the UAE.

"The Ministry of Environment is looking forward for LG continuous support in developing the UAE talents in the field of renewable energies".

As a result of the training course, the UAE government will now review several recommendations by LG to tackle climate change. These environmental solutions include; Solar Power for government buildings, schools, universities, and industrial complexes; geothermal technology to improve cooling efficiency in HVA and; Reed Wetland to aid in the treatment of municipal wastewater or improve the water quality in places like the Dubai creek.

“LG Electronics is determined to help governments around the world adopt environmentally friendly technology where possible. Clean technology is an extremely important part of helping governments, corporations and individuals reduce their footprint.

As a result, LG strives to develop both consumer and industrial products that are fuel efficient and energy saving. We believe the training programme was education and insightful and we look forward to working in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water again” commented Mr. K. W. Kim, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Regional Company.
