Every member of the Nawras family gathered together over a two-day period recently for the company’s fifth annual get together. More than 750 Nawras family members enjoyed a fast-paced programme of presentations, challenges and recognition ceremonies in celebration of the continued growth of Nawras and the exciting times ahead.
The occasion provided an ideal opportunity to introduce new faces, recognise the rich contribution of the many long serving participants and reaffirm the companywide commitment to ‘living the customer experience’ every day as part of continuing to provide customers with great value, pleasingly different service and excellent quality.
The beginning of the Nawras success story can be traced back to March 2005 when this customer friendly operator started totally transforming the mobile telecommunications landscape in Oman. Those early days saw 250 people dedicated to creating a new customer experience even though more than 200 of them had never worked in a mobile company before. The 2010 Nawras family gathering recognised the great contribution of this founding group and highlighted that impressively, more than 140 of these original employees, remain at the core of the professional pool of talent that is serving Nawras customers today.
“Now we have 750 of the finest telecom professionals I have ever worked together with,” said Ross Cormack, Nawras CEO.
Nawras, a Qtel Group company, experienced tremendous growth during 2009 and Cormack recounted the thrill and honour felt when the company won the Sultanate’s second fixed licence as part of his review of the year’s key events. Chief operating officer, Khalid Al Mahmoud examined the main challenges and attainments and emphasised that Nawras is not focused on delivering telecom but on delivering customer experience.
“Nawras is continuing to enhance network capacity and coverage”, said Peter Rubeck, chief technical officer. “In terms of fixed services, we are laying thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cables across the Sultanate and we will be providing 50% population coverage at launch.” Abdulla Al-Rawahy, Nawras chief strategy officer, added that broadband penetration is relatively low in the country at the moment but Nawras plans to make it available and attractive for many and will be transforming the fixed market in the same way Nawras has transformed mobile services.
Chief commercial officer, Tore Solberg, listed the four key elements that customers know they can expect from Nawras as being: pleasingly different service, great value, excellent quality and innovative products and services. He spoke about the continued growth of the extensive distribution network which is taking Nawras to customers in every corner of the Sultanate.
During the interactive programme, time was spent appreciating all those who had made an outstanding contribution over the previous 12 months. The commitment and exemplary roles displayed by seven people in particular characterise the spirit of excellence which drives the Nawras vision to enrich the lives of people in Oman through better communication services. Ibrahim Al Amri, Laila Al Wahabi, Dalia Al Hassani, Pradeep Kumar, Shoaib Sarwar, Fatma Al Habsi and Jasim Al Zadjali were all recognised for their tremendous efforts.
The floor then passed to the Nawras family members in an open forum where everyone was invited to ask questions or share their suggestions and ideas. Raffle prizes of cameras, DVD players and laptops were given out before the event concluded with an enthusiastic commitment by everyone present to work towards a successful launch of Nawras fixed services in the second half of 2010 while continuing to deliver pleasingly different customer service every day.
