HP Middle East Announced Its Green Strategy

Published Feb 14, 2010

HP has announced number of environmental goals for itself during Cairo ICT 2010. The company has pledged to improve the overall energy efficiency of its ink and laser printing products by 40% by 2011. In addition, the company plans to increase the amount of recycled materials used in its inkjet printers threefold in 2010, compared to 2007. Finally, the company plans to reach its goal of recovering 2 billion pounds of computing and printing equipment in 2010.

"HP is focused on helping all of our customers - from consumers to enterprises - reduce their environmental impact. The way we see it, environmental responsibility and business success go hand in hand. HP’s commitment to the environment helps us deliver on our promise to simplify your technology experiences. Every day we hear from customers who want to purchase more energy efficient products or recycle their HP technology” said Amin Mortazawi, General Manager, IPG HP Middle East.

HP ‘s efforts also include an enterprise printing assessment service and a carbon calculator, a more environmentally sensitive policy governing paper manufacturing and the launch of a HP inkjet printer made almost entirely from recycled materials.

“Recycling technology equipment is a win-win situation for everybody. It is good for the planet and good for business. We make it easy for our customers to recycle the printing products they use every day. Therefore our new "green" HP DeskJet D2545 Printer is an important milestone for HP as well as for our industry. It is made almost entirely out of recycled plastic. Fully, 83% of the printer's total plastic weight is recycled material. In addition, the printer uses HP 60 ink cartridges, which are molded from recycled plastic resins” added Amin Mortazawi, General Manager, IPG HP Middle East.

Furthermore HP’s newly launched Designjet T-series are considered as a big step forward in reducing the carbon footprint of large-format printing in Egypt. HP, which has the industry’s broadest portfolio of large-format printers, is also announcing the expanded functionality of the HP Carbon Footprint Calculator to include the HP Designjet printer line-up. The calculator, which has been available for users of HP inkjet and LaserJet office printers since May 2008, gives users the power to evaluate their energy consumption, paper use, carbon output and the associated monetary costs of their printing environment to understand how they can reduce their environmental impact through responsible printing.

During the ICT Cairo 2010, HP also showcased its new LaserJet portfolio, which is designed with the environment in mind. New LaserJets use Instant-on technologies to help users further reduce costs and environmental impact and are over 10 percent more energy efficient than non-qualified standard models. Instant-on Technology provides up to 50 percent energy savings over traditional fusing, while delivering a first page-out in seconds – up to 50 percent faster than competitive product.
