Published Mar 2, 2010

Mobiserve, (www.mobiserveholding.com), the region’s leader in turnkey telecommunication infrastructure solutions and engineering services, announced the successful completion of Dubai Metro’s mobile WiMAX network executed for Emirates operator du. The implementation marks the deployment of the first mobile WiMAX network in the UAE and is the latest in a series of successful installations for Mobiserve in the Middle East.

The WiMAX network, installed on behalf of UAE operator du, provides commuters traveling the city-wide metro system, seamless Internet access on all Wi-Fi enabled devices. Commuters with smart phones, PDAs, and laptops, can enjoy uninterrupted broadband connectivity at station terminals and while traveling on metro cars at speeds up to 90km/hr.

With the completion, Mobiserve has deployed the latest advanced WiMAX technology provided by Motorola on the longest wholly automated rail transport system in the world. Mobiserve began work on the landmark project in June 2009 and completed implementation on over 20 stations city-wide within three months. Mobiserve’s completion of the WiMAX network included build out, installation, core switch installation, testing and optimization across over ground and underground metro sites including the world’s largest underground station, Union Square, and adjacent shopping malls such as the Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, and Ibn Battuta Mall.

Commenting on the announcement, Sameh Atalla, Mobiserve CEO noted, “As the Middle East’s first rail line Wi-Fi enabled network, Dubai Metro’s WiMAX network marks a real evolution in Dubai’s transport by giving commuters truly mobile Internet while traveling on the go.”

“The project underscores Mobiserve’s commitment to undertaking innovative initiatives and introducing next generation technologies to end users, as well as partnering with pioneering operators such as du and technology vendors such as Motorola. We are proud to be part of this important milestone,” added Atalla.
