Experience LIVE BORDERLESS™ Top 20 Reveals The World’s Wacky, Wishful Wanderlust

Published Mar 8, 2010

The LG Electronics LIVE BORDERLESS™ Around the World in 80 Days campaign has uncovered the unusual and at times, heartfelt travel dreams of thousands when given a US$100,000 budget and business class round-the-world flight ticket. The final top 20 entries have been selected and online voting to choose the final six has begun.

The shortlist of 20 are from all corners of the world with entries from the USA, Kenya, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa, Poland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, Canada, Brazil, UK, Syria, Philippines, Libya and the UAE.

“The entries we have received have been amazing,” said Mr H.S. Paik, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE. “We have had a combination of high adrenalin travel itineraries through to humanitarian journeys and every conceivable idea in between. We have really struck a chord in our effort to find the person that most embodies the idea of LIVE BORDERLESS™.”
Amongst the 20 are weird and wacky ideas mixed with pure adrenaline junkies alongside some virtuous individuals who would like to donate time and money to humanitarian causes.

Steven Lee, 32 Korean American living in Kenya, hopes to win and use the money to invest in local development projects through the Wheel Wishers Organisation, whose mission is to alleviate human, animal and environmental suffering in developing countries through local programmes which seek to make changes in people’s lives for the better.

“If I win, I will use this opportunity to record documentaries of important work being done in South East Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa so we can all live borderless” said Mr. Lee in his entry.

Andrew Primrose, a 28-year-old British expat living in Hong Kong has a dream to live and travel with nomads in six continents, making a documentary about their threatened way of life and supporting a charitable project in each community. Mr. Primrose said in his entry; “For me, nomads represent the ultimate example of a borderless life, so I’d like to learn about the challenges faced by the world’s nomads as they live on the move. For example, some people get sea-sick on boats, but the reverse can happen for the Sama-Bajau sea nomads of Indonesia who get a type of land sickness if they are on dry land for too long.”

One of the most striking entries is one that has been written without the entrant themselves knowing! A family wishes to send their mother on a dream holiday to thank her for bringing them up, and also to apologise for being a ‘naughty kid’ when they were younger.

The wackiest shortlisted entry has to be from Viviane Poit, a 25-year-old living in Brazil who wants to travel the globe for 80 days tasting chicken cooked 80 different ways. Ms. Poit explains that chicken is the most popular poultry in the world and there must be 80 recipes for chicken she can taste on her travels.

On the other hand, Nadine Koudsi, a 31-year-old Canadian photographer raised in the UAE, wants to use the trip to create a book of photographs, the proceeds will go to a reputable charity that gives the basic right of access to clean water in the developing world. “Given this opportunity to travel around the world, I would also like the opportunity to give something back to the world, through a charity, by creating a book that is going to reflect this magnificent experience making me even more borderless than I am today,” said Ms Koudsi.

The 20 shortlisted entries can be viewed on www.liveborderless.net and voting is already underway to select the final six entrants who will be invited to Dubai at the end of March for a selection weekend in front of a jury.
