Motorola Hosts TETRA Conference In Egypt For Middle East’s Leading Airport And Airline Companies

Published Mar 8, 2010

Motorola, recently showcased its latest Terrestrial Trunked Radios (TETRA) products and solutions to more than 200 airport and airline customers in a conference hosted by leading Motorola experts in mission-critical communications.

Efficient and reliable communications are critical to the operation of any airport, and this is evidenced by the success of TETRA within the airport sector around the world - more than 80 airports, including many of the busiest airports in the Middle East and worldwide, have deployed Motorola’s radio communications solutions specially tailored for the airport environment.

To support the rapid growth of the aviation industry in the Middle East, Motorola hosted a conference to introduce its latest TETRA solutions. Furthermore Motorola introduced the MTP850Ex, an ATEX certified TETRA terminal used particularly in high-risk and hazardous environments containing potentially explosive dust or gas, making it ideal for use in flight refueling areas. Also shown was the TCR1000, the world’s smallest TETRA radio providing discreet communications for example when providing VIP protection.

“Airports are highly dynamic environments in which time, cost, security and safety are key considerations for all businesses operating within them. They are also areas where conventional mobile telephony is highly congested. Motorola’s TETRA solutions offer secure, resilient communications, and are specifically designed to enhance all aspects of airport operations and meet the requirements of the region’s aviation industry,” said Martin Fuerst, Motorola’s Director of Sales EMEA, TETRA Channels.

In addition, Motorola, the world’s largest supplier of TETRA solutions, offers the Middle East’s aviation industry a range of radio features and applications to further enhance operations. Each radio can be supplied with an integrated GPS receiver, allowing the location of the user to be sent to a dispatcher, and the MTP850S is available with an integrated ‘Man Down’ feature that sends an alert to the console operator if the radio does not move in a given period of time or tilts past a defined angle. These capabilities can be used with Motorola’s MotoLocator application suite which allows enterprises to easily visualize and track the location and status of people and mobile assets to ensure their effectiveness and security.

Systel, Motorola’s solutions provider in Egypt and partner at the TETRA conference, has seen a strong demand for mission-critical communications from its growing number of airport and airline customers. “With increased traffic seen in most Middle East airports, it is crucial that the region’s aviation industry finds long-term, failsafe communications solutions to improve operating efficiency. Motorola’s world-leading TETRA communications technology is customised to effectively meet these needs,” said Dr. Ismail Mashhour, Chairman, Systel.
