Intel Calls On Egyptian Students To Innovate

Innovation is a key agenda item for Intel in Egypt this year. Following the launch of Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Egypt with the Ministry of Education and the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) last month, Intel is pleased to announce that the national fairs will take place on March 16th in Alexandria and 20th March in Cairo. Egyptian winners from these fairs will get to compete globally at ISEF in California mid-May.
“Youths are the key to our success in the future. The response to the call for innovation and critical thinking has been phenomenal so far and we have had excellent contributions from Egyptian students all over the country,” said Nihal Abbas, Education Manager, Intel Egypt. “Through our education and other CSR initiatives, we continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education to endorse local talent with a bid to help raise global competitiveness of our youth. To date, we have trained more than 270,000 teachers on our Intel® Teach Program which has impacted over a million students in Egypt,” she added.
Intel ISEF, a program of Society for Science & the Public, is the world's largest pre-college science fair competition, where students have a chance to explore, discover, and innovate. The Intel ISEF encourages students to tackle challenging scientific questions, using authentic research practices to create solutions to the problems of tomorrow. To judge the projects, more than 1,000 science, engineering, and industry professionals volunteer at ISEF.
Ten local fairs, organized by Arab Science and Technology Foundation, have taken place in different governorates to maximize reach and avail a fair chance for all students nationwide.
Egypt’s first participation at ISEF was in 2005 with just one project nominated from one local fair. By 2009, two local fairs were organized where six projects were nominated to participate in the final round in Reno, Nevada. Intel International Science and Engineering Fair finalists are selected annually from more than 550 affiliated fairs around the world. Each affiliated fair can send its top two individual projects and one team project to the competition. Finalists’ projects tackle challenging scientific questions that address some of today’s most pressing global issues. In fact, nearly 20% of the projects being presented this year either have been patented or will be submitted to be patented. Projects represent a wide range of scientific disciplines.
