Trend Micro Expands Its Hosted Security Service & Puts Focus On Channel-Success & Protecting Mobile Workers

Published Mar 15, 2010

Trend Micro is delivering its “Worry-Free” promise of safer, smarter, simpler security through a new subscription-based, hosted service solution that allows small businesses to be always connected, always protected. With the introduction of the new Trend Micro™ Worry-Free™ Business Security Services, small businesses are relieved of server-management burdens and time-consuming updates, yet still have easy control through its Web-based console that lets them manage and monitor their computers, even those that are unconnected to the network.

The new Services are part of both the Trend Micro Worry-Free family, and its hosted security portfolio, giving channel partners breadth and depth of solutions for their customers. They are designed to help alleviate some of the cost, margin and product-reliability challenges channel partners face, especially in tough economic times.

“The troubling economy has affected everyone, including our channel partners. Trend Micro’s commitment to enabling channel-success is recognised throughout the industry and we designed Worry-Free Business Security Services for stronger partner-profitability,” said Carol Carpenter, general manager of the consumer and small business units, Trend Micro. “Worry-Free Business Security Services locks in success for both channel and customer. Channel partners gain increased margin and closer customer relationships. Customers get superior threat protection against the latest threats.”

Worry-Free Business Security Services sets up and installs in 3 easy steps so that a partner’s cost of sale dramatically reduce. As a hosted solution, and through the benefits of Trend Micro™ Worry-Free™ Remote Manager, partners have the ability to provide on-going services at zero cost for multiple customers from one interface.

Trend Micro ramps up protection for small business with mobile workforces:

With mobile threats on the rise and many small businesses struggling to ensure computers and laptops coming in and out of the network are fully protected, Trend Micro also added extra protection against Internet threats for its growing mobile and telecommuting workers: The USB Device Threat Prevention feature blocks threats whenever USB drives are used; the Wireless Network Prevention feature protects users against potential hackers while accessing an unknown wireless network. Worry-Free Business Security Services has a central, Web-based console that’s hosted by Trend Micro so small business customers can monitor and manage their desktop, laptop and server security from anywhere.

Contiga Networks Systems is a leading IT services provider striving to bring the most responsive, yet competitively priced technical services to Central Florida. Since 2002, Contiga has been using and recommending Trend Micro security solutions, and recently ried out the latest Worry-Free Business Security Services.

“The new Worry-Free Business Security Services help us alleviate the time and cost of servicing our customers, optimally utilising resources and maximising staff productivity,” said Christopher Clai, CEO of Contiga Networks Systems, Inc. “The added mobile protection features are an added value for the majority of our customers who are trying to balance securing their networks while at the same time managing their mobile employees.”

The infrastructure behind Worry-Free:

The Trend Micro™ Smart Protection™ Network delivers the infrastructure behind Worry-Free Business Security Services and sets it apart from conventional hosted security solutions. It uses a number of patent-pending technologies and combines Internet-based (or “in-the-cloud”) technologies with lighter-weight, client-based methods to ensure small businesses have immediate access to the latest and strongest protection wherever and however they connect – from home, within the company’s network, or on the go.

Recently, an independent tester conducted non-commissioned tests of leading security vendors. The results confirmed the Smart Protection Network’s effectiveness: Trend Micro scored the best and achieved an over-time protection (against socially engineered malware) rating of 96.4 percent.

New features found in Worry-Free Business Security Services powered by the Smart Protection Network include:

- NEW Smart Scan, a scanning approach unlike conventional security. Smart Scan lightens the memory load of computers by storing the majority of security technology on the Web security server maintained by Trend Micro rather than each computer so customers get faster scans and updates, threats are detected and removed immediately, and users don’t need to worry about large file updates while traveling.

- NEW Smart Feedback is another approach unique to Trend Micro, a company that has created one of the world’s largest “neighborhood watch community” integrated feedback loops that provide continuous communication between Trend Micro products as well as the company’s 24/7 threat research centers and technologies in a two-way update steam. Each new threat identified via a single customer’s routine reputation check, for example, automatically updates all of Trend Micro’s threat databases around the world, blocking any subsequent customer encounters of a given threat. On average, the Smart Protection Network currently handles over 30 billion queries, and blocks nearly 4 billion threats a day.

- NEW Behavior Monitoring (Analysis) technology keeps an eye on applications to identify any abnormal activity that indicates malicious behaviour. By correlating the different components of a threat and continuously updating its threat databases, Trend Micro has the distinct advantage of being able to respond in real time, providing immediate and automatic protection from email and Web threats.
