Customer Friendly Communications Provider Nawras Will Launch Fixed Services Soon

Published Mar 23, 2010

Preparations are in full swing for the exciting launch of the pleasingly different fixed voice and broadband services coming soon from Nawras. Customers will not have much longer to wait. The Sultanate of Oman’s customer friendly communications provider will be launching its innovative fixed services in the second half of 2010. People can look forward to enjoying the same innovation and focus on customers as they have already seen delivered so convincingly by this award winning company, in the field of mobile services.

Nawras chief commercial officer, Tore Solberg, said: “We are looking forward to delighting our customers with our pleasingly different fixed services including fast Nawras broadband for homes and offices. We know that there are many customers waiting to be served with the reliable technology and excellent quality that Nawras fixed services will offer and we will be ready to deliver this very soon.”

Nawras is in the process of implementing its next generation network across the Sultanate with around 10 kilometres of fibre optic cable going into the ground every single day. This massive project has already seen a total of more than 1,500 kilometres of cable safely installed with the work continuing ahead of target. At the same time, Nawras is building WiMAX base stations to take its high speed broadband service into homes and residences nationwide. Nawras will offer fixed broadband services to more than 54% of the population at launch and will increase that number to 81% by the middle of next year.

“Our next generation network rollout is aligned with our company values of being caring, excellent and pleasingly different,” explained Peter Rubeck, chief technical officer. “For the last five years we have reliably delivered services based on our high quality mobile network and now we will do the same with our fibre optic cable backbone and WiMAX technology powering our pleasingly different fixed services.”

- Caring:

As one would expect from this caring company, Nawras is being extremely considerate of the community and trying its best to keep any disturbance to a minimum at each stage of the work. There are numerous companies to liaise with as ground is prepared for the fibre cable to be rolled out; permission needs to be obtained before proceeding with each stage and schedules must be tightly monitored to avoid any unnecessary disruption to businesses or residences. As always, Nawras people are working in a responsible way to deliver the next generation network on time.

- Excellent:

Nawras pays great attention to detail and building a new network comes under the same scrutiny. When laying fibre in the ground it is very important to protect it securely in order to maintain the reliability of the service in the future. Trenches are dug and fibre is carefully pulled through, one kilometre at a time. Each strand of fibre is protected from the elements, inquisitive animals and possible decay by the different layers surrounding it. In more vulnerable areas it is sometimes necessary to use concrete to ensure that the fibre cable is adequately protected.

Omani site inspectors from Nawras rigorously check every step of the work as part of the company’s strict fibre optic quality control measures. All finished work is inspected to ensure an excellent standard has been achieved before the go ahead is given to proceed to the next stage.

- Pleasingly different:

To protect its valuable next generation network assets and ensure that customers can rely on the network operating without any interruption, Nawras is digging deep and exceeding all recommended guidelines in terms of the depth of channels where fibre optic cable is placed as well as safety measures such as the number of warning tapes placed in the ground to signify the proximity of the fibre. Nawras is using great care and expertise to rollout its next generation network

Nawras will be laying down more than 5000 kilometres of fibre optic cables in total. Even with this extensive coverage, the company will still have the incredible advantage of being able to identify the location of any minor malfunction with pinpoint accuracy to within just one metre of the source. This is thanks to a very sophisticated monitoring system being in place.

- Communications provider of choice:

Nawras is poised for its next exciting growth phase as an integrated telecom operator. In transforming broadband services for customers and offering great value with excellent quality and pleasingly different services, Nawras will continue to pursue its mission to be the communications provider of choice in the Sultanate of Oman.
