Nawras, the Sultanate of Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, is joining hundreds of millions of people around the world who will be turning their lights off for one hour on March 27 to support Earth Hour 2010. For the first time, all exterior lights will be turned off at the company’s three buildings in Muscat, including the main building at Al Athaiba which is home to the company’s award winning customer champions.
From 8.30pm on March 27, the company will also be switching off interior lights wherever possible although customer champions will be continuing to provide pleasingly different service while operating in semi-darkness for this significant one-hour period. The initiative will also be supported by the 23 Nawras stores countrywide where lighting will be reduced to the bare minimum required to operate, in support of Earth Hour 2010.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Nawras is already aware of the importance of playing its part in protecting the natural beauty of the Sultanate of Oman as well as carefully monitoring its use of global resources. Nawras was first to introduce customers to e-billing to save paper and the company has recently made a further improvement in this area by setting all its printers to select double-sided printing by default.
The introduction of E-recharge has reduced plastic and recent agreements with premium dealers Khimji Ramdas and Enhance will help to create more awareness and stimulate greater take-up of this plastic-free, convenient way to buy credit. Customers can also make use of the 50 self service machines dotted all over the country which are easy to use for electronic recharge.
For some time, Nawras has been recycling paper and plastic bottles and is in the process of phasing out the use of plastic carrier bags in favour of a recycled paper alternative. Another environmentally friendly way of doing business can be seen in the way the Nawras family is encouraged to benefit from e-learning which reduces travel needs and therefore lowers fuel consumption.
Khalid Al-Mahmoud, Nawras chief operating officer, said, “According to the world wildlife fund, in 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support for Earth Hour by turning off their lights for sixty minutes. This year we are pleased to be encouraging our more than 750 Nawras people to support this action by turning off lights at the company’s offices and stores in Oman as well as at their homes. It would be fantastic if customers joined us too as the combination of many small actions will add up to make a real difference.”
Nawras, a Qtel Group company, will continue to look after its more than 1.8 million valued customers during Earth Hour by delivering its usual great value, excellent quality and pleasingly different service.
