UAE Securities And Commodities Authority Becomes First Federal Entity To Adopt Windows 7

Published Mar 28, 2010

Microsoft Gulf announced that the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) is the first Federal government entity to implement Windows 7 to enhance internal user productivity and streamline operations. Following the implementation of Windows 7, SCA has been able to reduce operational expenses and significantly improve overall efficiencies. The operating system also allows the organization to have a secure and reliable platform while giving them the advantage of enhanced functionality and user interface.

Windows 7 enables SCAs IT staff to streamline deployment processes; deliver desktop services more efficiently and significantly reduce the cost of supporting PC users. These capabilities are enabled by a broad array of new and improved Windows 7 features. Furthermore, SCA has adopted Microsoft technologies across the breadth of its operations right from infrastructure and server management to the Intranet portal.

“The Securities and Commodities Authority is responsible for the regulation of the UAEs capital markets, so we need to ensure that we use state-of-the art technology that provides advanced corporate data management and security and improves best practices”, said Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Hadari, SCA's Deputy CEO for Organizational and Supporting Services Affairs. “Windows 7 was the most obvious choice for its feature rich functionality and ability to deliver and manage user experiences and applications while increasing technological efficiency within the organization at reduced costs. So, under the guidance of the SCA board and CEO and the directives of H.E. Abdullah Salem Al Turifi, SCA Chief Executive Officer, we implemented Windows 7 across the organization and are very pleased with the way this new operating system works.”

“Windows 7 delivers the fundamental performance, reliability and security features that organizations today are looking for,” added Wilson Xavier, Windows Business Group Lead, Microsoft Gulf. “Additionally, businesses can expect significant advancements in their PC, server, web and application management infrastructure thereby delivering higher returns on investment. In the Gulf, we are seeing high levels of interest and adoption of Windows 7 by organizations such as the Securities and Commodities Authority that want to transform the way they manage their infrastructure. We commend SCAs vision for using the latest technologies and for being one of the early adopters of Windows 7.”

In 2009, SCA opted to upgrade to the Windows 7 operating system, keeping in line with its strategy for using the most advanced technologies as part of its long-term goals. Specifically, it sought to reduce costs by using built-in security enhancements and also wanted to improve information access for employees. The team ran a pilot program with approximately 10 users. Now, Windows 7 runs across 200 users within the organization.
