Demonstrating its support and commitment to innovation and creativity in Dubai, du was honoured with the first-ever Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Awards.

The event was attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, HE Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, apart from a number of Sheikhs and senior officials, while His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated presented the "Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts" award to Osman Sultan, CEO du.

“We are extremely honoured to have received this award, which bears testament to du’s dedication and support of artistic activity. Innovation and creativity lie at the heart of du’s philosophy and we are therefore committed to supporting the ambitions of both organisations and individuals who demonstrate creative flair and enthusiasm,” commented Osman Sultan, CEO, du.

The Patrons of the Arts Awards honours and recognises individuals, businesses, organisations and government entities that have demonstrated financial and in-kind contributions towards the arts in Dubai through sustained support and promotion of artistic activity.

du has supported numerous initiatives that encourage the creative talent of UAE nationals, such as its partnership with “Freej” - the first 3D animated series in the Middle East which shares Arab culture and heritage with the youth of this region - as well as its partnership with 'Shelter', a unique incubation centre which offers young UAE entrepreneurs a platform to further their career by setting up their own entrepreneurial venture. du has also been associated with “Life of the Emirates”, a series of television spots on seven UAE channels featuring aspects of the UAE culture and history which were intended to promote the cause of awareness about UAE’s rich culture and heritage among the UAE’s residents.

True to its philosophy of ‘adding life to life’ and always keen to give back to the community, du realises the importance of investing in creative young minds, and providing them with adequate confidence, support and resources to develop their skill and talent. The identification and nurturing of innovative ideas from creative minds figures prominently in du’s strategy, which is premised on the belief that innovation is key to promoting sustainable economic growth in the UAE.
