Alcatel-Lucent Names John Dickson As Head Of Operations

Published Apr 8, 2010

Alcatel-Lucent announced the appointment of John Dickson as head of Operations, effective May 10th. In this role, John replaces Michel Rahier, who is pursuing other interests outside Alcatel-Lucent. Based in Paris, John will be a member of the management committee and will report to Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent.

John brings extensive leadership experience in the technology sector, most recently President and CEO of Agere Systems, a global leader in semiconductors for storage, wireless data, and public and enterprise networks that subsequently merged with LSI, Inc.

In this new position John will oversee the procurement, hardware and software supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, and real estate activities of the company.

“Michel has been a critical driver in the transformation of Alcatel-Lucent, streamlining our operations in many domains such as inventory management, procurement, real estate, manufacturing and logistics and driving new ways to do business, notably through the building of our eco-system of co-sourcing partners. I thank him for his 30 years of dedication and hard work in laying the foundations for an agile and efficient company and wish him the very best for the future,” said Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. “With John I am confident we will continue this strong momentum and further transform the way Alcatel-Lucent does business and will partner even more closely with our customers in supporting their own network and business transformation.”

Prior to Agere Systems John served as executive vice president and CEO of Lucent Technologies’ Microelectronics and Communications Technologies Group, with responsibility for the company’s Microelectronics, Intellectual Property, Network Products, Lucent Venture Partners and New Ventures units. Earlier in his career John was the Group’s chief operating officer and vice president of its Integrated Circuits division. Before joining Lucent (AT&T) in 1993, Dickson was chairman and CEO at SHOgraphics, Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif., start-up company. Prior to his tenure at SHOgraphics, Dickson had extended careers with ICL, plc in the UK where he was chief operating executive and with Texas Instruments, Inc in the UK and in France.

Dickson was born in Sheffield, England. He received an honors degree in Electronic Engineering in 1966 and a postgraduate diploma in Business Studies from the University of Sheffield. He has worked in the United Kingdom, France and the United States.
