Symantec Corp. has announced Altiris IT Management Suite 7.0, providing customers with complete management capabilities that enhance effectiveness through faster deployments and increased security, reduce costs by closing technology gaps and improve manageability amidst the increasing information and infrastructure sprawl. IT Management Suite rounds out the new Symantec enterprise security solutions, designed to provide security continuity and enable organizations to continuously respond to internal and external threats and changes.
With IT Management Suite, formerly Altiris Total Management Suite 6.5, Symantec is redefining endpoint management by providing comprehensive client, server and asset management with full service desk and automation capabilities. The new suite helps ensure business productivity tools are functioning properly, delivers complete visibility to IT assets, facilitates license compliance and automates complex management tasks, such as Windows 7 migrations. IT Management Suite is built on the Symantec Management Platform version 7, driving best practice automation and providing modular and extensible integration across Symantec’s product portfolio and third-party solutions.
“The increasing complexity of organizations’ IT environments makes managing and securing disparate, complex IT assets a tough job,” said Johnny Karam, Regional Director – MENA, Symantec. “IT Management Suite 7.0 provides the necessary automation and integration from a central location to help our customers reduce the time it takes to manage their assets, improve security and reduce operational costs.”
- Reliable Windows 7 Migrations:
Symantec’s 2010 State of Enterprise Security study underscores the importance of having an endpoint management solution in place as more than 70 percent of the 2,100 enterprises surveyed claimed that they are already migrating or are thinking about migrating to Windows 7 over the next 12 months. Automated OS migration is an integral part of an endpoint management strategy that helps companies reduce the total cost of ownership and minimize employee downtime.
IT Management Suite automates the Windows 7 migration process from end to end, including assessing the environment for migration readiness, building images and preparing applications, preserving user settings, deploying images and software and reporting results. The need to touch each computer during the upgrade is eliminated, and the process is fast and easy to execute with reliable results, including substantial cost savings.
- Cost savings with intelligent software management:
IT Management Suite provides complete visibility into IT assets, automates processes and produces accurate license reports for permanent cost savings and easy vendor audits and compliance. An example is the automated process for obtaining software within an enterprise environment. This process is initiated by a software request through Symantec ServiceDesk, which kicks off other processes including performing an inventory of existing licenses, matching installed software against contracts, reviewing relationships between software assets and their owners, measuring actual usage, determining license entitlements, reassigning existing licenses or procuring new ones, and then delivering the requested software to users.
- Automation of complex IT processes:
With the automation capabilities built into IT Management Suite, administrators can assume a more strategic business role in their organizations. As a result, customers can make faster, data-driven decisions. Using IT Management Suite, customers can automate countless complex, time-consuming IT tasks, such as new employee requests and employee terminations.
“Organizations now want more complete management solutions that help simplify and improve the way they manage, secure and support all IT assets, while promoting effective service delivery,” said Fred Broussard, research director, PC, Device and IT Service Management Software at IDC. “Solutions such as IT Management Suite from Symantec can address the unique requirements of organizations and allow IT managers to maintain system reliability and efficiency across client and server environments, while also increasing the security and IT service levels organizations demand.”
- IT management suite includes altiris client:
Management Suite, Altiris Server Management Suite, Altiris Asset Management Suite, Symantec ServiceDesk, Symantec Workflow and Wise Package Studio Suite.
- Pricing and availability:
IT Management Suite 7.0 is now available and can be purchased directly from Symantec or through Symantec’s worldwide network of value-added authorized resellers, distributors and systems integrators.
