Intel Joins Forces With Institute Of Applied Technology For UAE Based

Highlighting the importance of technology in the field of education, Intel Corporation and the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) finalized a 1:1 Computing Teacher Training test bed, laying the ground work for technology-enabled learning to commence.
The test bed comes as part of a global initiative by Intel to develop a dedicated 1:1 e-learning curriculum for schools. In total seven teachers from IAT piloted the programme providing constructive feedback to Intel. “IAT is the first school in the region to fully implement a 1:1 computing model, with a laptop being made available for every student and teacher, in addition to the required IT infrastructure,” stated Shelly Shott, Intel Senior Education Manager.
“1:1 e-learning is rapidly becoming a worldwide education trend as it allows global competitiveness to flourish. This method of teaching provides teachers with the tools to encourage students to expand their horizons through access to the Internet and technology. With increased accessibility to data and professionals, students will be able to think more creativity and broaden their scope of knowledge.”
Vital to the future of 1:1 e-learning is the professional development of teachers, a key component of the IAT test bed. “Teacher training is critical if we are to advance our educational systems. By enabling the enabler we will be able to assist in changing teaching practices, bringing 21st century learning and development directly in to UAE classrooms. IAT has been extremely welcoming and highly cooperative in the development of this programme and we look forward to carrying on this partnership,” added Shott.
The specialized 1:1 computing training curriculum Test Bed for teachers was also attended by six Master Teachers from Russia, Nigeria, Argentina and Turkey. Following the completion of all test beds the curriculum will be launched globally, driving forward the role technology is set to play in the classroom.
“This initiative is extremely important for the future of education in the UAE. At IAT we strive to provide our students with a strong foundation for learning and believe 1:1 computing is an excellent platform to help students realize their full potential. We are looking forward to the full roll out of the curriculum and hope to integrate this into our educational system within a suitable timeframe,” concluded Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, Director General, IAT.
