Thuraya XT Provides The Fastest Data Service Available On A Satellite Handheld

Published May 12, 2010

Thuraya’s latest satellite handheld “Thuraya XT” currently provides the highest data speed of any satellite phone on the market. As today’s communications are primarily being driven by data services, the availability of internet connectivity on satellite handhelds has become a basic need especially for users in remote or rural areas not traditionally covered by terrestrial networks who require access to quick and reliable data services.

Of prime importance to users of satellite data services is throughput speed and in today’s mobile satellite handheld industry, Thuraya Telecommunications Company provides the fastest data service on its XT satellite phone.

“Our ability to play a part in modern communications and satisfying user needs is key to Thuraya. When we designed the XT we ensured users could make calls and have access to quick data services simultaneously. We provide circuit switched (9.6 kbps) as well as packet switched data services (up to 60 kbps), which is currently the fastest in the market,” said Thuraya’s Product Management Manager, Rashid Baba.

GmPRS features on Thuraya XT enable downloads speeds of 60 kbps therefore the phone can be easily utilised when connected to a computer for web based email, blogging, internet browsing and uploading news and pictures. The handheld also provides fax services.

“The presence of an efficient data service on Thuraya XT enhances the sense of mobility for users. Coupled with our ubiquitous coverage of more than 140 countries from Iceland to Australia by a superior network means that Thuraya XT is a practical, modern and very “smart” satellite handheld,” added Baba.

Thuraya XT is known as the world’s toughest satellite handheld because it is the only mobile satellite handheld that is IP54/IK03 certified which makes it dust, splash water and shock proof. Since its launch, the device has attracted attention from service providers and vertical customers because of its efficiency, durability and reliability.
