Addressing a power packed audience at the Strategic Keynote session, on the opening day of the Middle East Communications (MECOM) conference and exhibition, Mr. Abdulla AL Ahmad, Vice President, Enterprise Sales at Etisalat, highlighted the key challenges faced by the global telecom industry and the focus areas for Etisalat in the coming year.
In his presentation, Al Ahmad talked about the susceptible economic environment and the dynamic consumer and enterprise landscapes that have compelled telecom operators to innovate and think in new directions. He also discussed upcoming technology trends from both, enterprise and end user perspective, and provided a strategic direction to telecom operators to leverage these trends, to lead from the front.
Al Ahmad also highlighted Etisalat’s initiatives to bring the latest technology and services to the UAE to enhance the country’s telecom infrastructure. Speaking on the UAE 2021 vision of building a knowledgeable, competitive and resilient economy, Al Ahmad re-affirmed Etisalat’s efforts to create an enabling technology infrastructure to make UAE as the most technologically advanced nation in the world. In this context, he mentioned that UAE will become one of the first countries in the world to have nationwide FTTH deployment by 2011. Besides FTTH, Etisalat will also commercially launch the Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G technology to the Middle East by end of 2010. Etisalat has been conducting successful LTE trials, designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile networks. Through LTE, Etisalat will be able to provide downlink speed of 140Mbps and 50Mbps uplink speed, reaching yet another technological milestone.
For enterprise and SMB customers, Al Ahmad spoke about the managed services solution and the benefits of outsourcing to a holistic technology services provider. Etisalat has also been focusing on delivering Managed Services to help companies focus on their core business needs and reduce total cost of IT ownership. This is a critical requirement for businesses given the challenging economic environment. Etisalat’s current portfolio of Managed Services will be augmented with additional services during the year so that customers have greater choices when handing over their non-core IT infrastructure to Etisalat .
Talking about the latest initiatives being undertaken by Etisalat to boost the adoption of mobile broadband in the UAE, Al Ahmad also highlighted that broadband is far more than high-speed networking. It is the ability to provide customers a set of innovative choices to connect several technology devices, as per their requirements, integrated into a bundle. Broadband will enable customers to access, create and share digital content in, around and outside their homes. Broadband will eventually lead to convergence in consumer and business segments, enabling convenience, flexibility and customer satisfaction.
Elaborating on the Etisalat technology focus, Abdulla Hashim, Senior VP, Business Solutions, Etisalat said, “Etisalat’s Managed Service solutions offer the best functionality and flexibility that enterprises require by giving companies access to leading network technologies and management expertise without requiring high initial capital expenditures or ongoing investments in technology upgrades. In addition, one key differentiator is our ability to deliver the highest standards in quality of service due to our visibility over the network which we own and our ability to monitor the network performance”.
