Jacky’s Electronics, the UAE’s number one multi-brand consumer electronics retailer, is expecting a further increase in demand for the LED and 3D TV categories during the summer and World Cup season.
The company has experienced a strong response in LED TV, constituting 10% to the total TV sales since its regional launch in 2009. According to Jacky’s Electronics, larger screen sizes such in the 40-inch plus segment are among the bestsellers in its outlets. Samsung, being the first player to establish in the LED TV segment and with its whole product portfolio in series and sizes, has been leading the sales while LG comes in second.
Mid quarter of this year, Samsung had a worldwide released of its 3D LED TVs which has also been well received in the UAE. Since the local launch, Jacky’s Electronics has already sold several 3D LED TVs. The company has also seen local residents as well as tourists from the CIS and Africa region who are purchasing 3D and LED TVs.
“With the introduction of 3D LED TV from Samsung, we are optimistic for better sales in this category especially since other brands have already announced their series. Sony is expected to launch its 3D LED TV series in June, while LG will have its model commercially available in July.
“Panasonic is also launching its 3D TVs but using plasma technology, while Samsung remains to be the only brand to have 3D in LED, LCD and Plasma TVs and which offers a 2D to 3D converter as a standard feature in its TV allowing any 2D content to be instantly converted to 3D,” said Ashish Panjabi, Chief Operating Officer, Jacky’s Group of Companies.
Jacky’s Electronics is optimistic that with the TV segment pie becoming larger LED TVs and 3D TVs will continue to take a greater share of the sales while Plasma and LCD are will still grow in demand in the coming years.
“We are expecting to see a surge in demand in both LED and 3D TV segments especially with the World Cup season. Football events have often been the drivers of TV purchasers as people want the best quality in terms of picture, sound and design,” he added.
Panjabi also noted that 3D TVs will gain more attraction as further content becomes available in the market. “Some channels such as Al Jazeera will broadcast football games in 3D while Sony is launching four PS3 games in 3D format. Microsoft’s Xbox platform also supports 3D gaming and with the expected introduction of Microsoft Natal later this year, the gaming experience for the casual gamer is expected to revolutionise,” he concluded.
