Published Jun 6, 2010

Emirates Steel, the largest integrated steel plant in the UAE, has been awarded gold at the SAP Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Quality Awards at a ceremony hosted at SAPPHIRE NOW in Frankfurt, Germany.

The win recognizes Emirates Steel’s successful SAP ECC go-live in January 2009 – both on time and on budget – across its 3 Rolling Mills, Steel Making Plant and DR Plant in Musaffah, Abu Dhabi.

“On behalf of SAP I would like to congratulate Emirates Steel on its Quality Award win – recognizing the effective management of the software implementation marked by excellence in execution and achieving a fast low-cost implementation. A great customer example demonstrating rapid realization of return on investment,” said Sergio Maccotta, Managing Director, SAP MENA.

“We are delighted to be recognized for our achievements - the business objectives for Emirates Steel were the enterprise-wide implementation of business processes, harmonized processes across multiple plants, and the adoption of SAP best practices,” said Soumyajit Ghosh, Controller, Business Planning & ERP Manager, and the SAP Project Director at Emirates Steel Industries.

Key criteria for success included a commitment from Senior Management, a focus on quality, the effective use of positive external audit review factors to improve implementation, and strengthened business support to ensure all departments were mobilized to support the project.

Mahindra Satyam, a leading global business consulting and IT Services company was the prime implementation partner responsible for the Emirates Steel project.

“We are proud to be associated with Emirates Steel and SAP as the implementation partner. This award recognizes the achievement made by being on time and on budget, in addition to the business benefits gained by our client” said Ramesh Ram, Regional Head –SAP Alliance & Presales, Mahindra Satyam.
