Tripp Lite, a world leading manufacturer of power protection and connectivity equipment, has announced the launch of the latest version of its ‘PowerAlert’ power management software – the first to offer USB communication protocols for Linux users, in the Middle East. Compatible with Linux’s Fedora 8 and OpenSUSE 11.0, the newest edition of the software now allows users of the operating system, who are dependent on USB communications and have been limited to the system’s built-in power management tool, to monitor power conditions and protect their mission-critical systems from power problems.
Compatible with Tripp Lite HID-Power Device Compliant UPS Systems, the new version of ‘PowerAlert’ also offers users a full range of solutions for every environment, including ‘PowerAlert Local’ for basic unattended shutdown; ‘PowerAlert Network Shutdown Agent’ to monitor SNMP-enabled network devices and allow for a safe shutdown of monitored computers; and ‘PowerAlert Network Management System’ that can monitor and control up to 250 SNMP-enabled UPS systems and PDUs. Among its many advanced features include eMail notification, SNMP trap notification, UPS self-test procedures and script execution.
“Transcending the limits of their system’s built-in power management tool, Linux users who are dependent on USB communications can now leverage advanced power management features offered by the latest version of ‘PowerAlert’ power management software,” said Vipin Sharma, Vice President, EEMEA and India Sales, Tripp Lite. “The launch of this newest software innovation, which provides Linux users with the capability to monitor their power conditions and protect their mission-critical systems from power problems, underlines our commitment to giving our customers the best in UPS technology and solutions regardless of what operating system they use.”
In addition to Fedora 8 and OpenSUSE 11.0, ‘PowerAlert’ modules are also available for Windows 7/XP, Vista and Windows Server. Allowing one computer system to manage or monitor more than one UPS per system, the software package is also the first to support a redundant UPS setup without any extra components. Powered by Java installation and interface and running on SNMP-based communication, ‘PowerAlert’ provides network power control from any web-browser, and also allows users to customize alert parameters for a variety of different events. In addition, Tripp Lite offers a number of hardware accessories designed to work with ‘PowerAlert’, including SNMP network cards, and temperature, humidity and security sensors.
“We have engineered a number of hardware accessories to complement the ‘PowerAlert’ power management software in line with our commitment to providing a complete range of power protection solutions to address our customers’ needs. We are very proud to be the first UPS manufacturer to offer Linux users a comprehensive power management solution. Network managers are now equipped with a powerful network monitoring and management tool that affords the flexibility they require,” concluded Sharma.
