Cabling Specialist Reichle & De-Massari In Wetzikon Moves Into New Company Building

Published Jun 27, 2010
The building was officially handed over to the developer Reichle Immobilien AG on June 18, 2010, during a small ceremony. The new company building of cabling specialist Reichle & De Massari AG (R&M) has five floors and a gross floor area of 16,000 square meters. It houses the departments of Production, Logistics, Innovation & Development and Product Management. A core feature of the modern cube is a fully automatic high-bay warehouse with a capacity for over 4,500 pallet slots.

The energy design is also remarkable. In the summer, heat generated in production and operating processes and in cooling the rooms is conveyed by means of borehole heat exchangers to a large underground storage system through cover panels suffused with water. This stored thermal energy is then used to heat the building in winter. During the cold season, the water in the borehole heat exchangers is heated with a heat pump from 12 to about 36 degrees Celsius to heat the cover panels. In summer, this water, which has a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, is used to cool the rooms. As a result, the CO2 emissions are 90% lower than in conventional buildings.

The individual departments are moving into the new building in stages, with the overall move scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. An ingenious production schedule has been drawn up to ensure uninterrupted ability to deliver, even during the move. The official dedica-tion of the new company building is scheduled for September 8, 2010. In the spring of 2011, an open house day will be held to give the general public a chance to take a look at the striking new R&M building. The building is at Binzstrasse 32, right next to the headquarters at Binzstrasse 31. It is a captivating structure featuring clean, functional architecture and ultra-efficient building services engineering. In the initial phase, there will be 300 people working here. The building is designed with potential capacity for about 400 workers.

The modern building seems open to the future and symbolizes the powers of innovation that R&M possesses. Now in its 46th year of business, the family-owned company has about 600 employees throughout the world and is able to gain market shares, even in these tough times. It can do so because it combines high-tech production with an ultra-modern product range and is now successfully implementing a regionalization plan involving management and logistics hubs. CEO Martin Reichle had this to say at the small hand-over ceremony in Wetzikon: “You have to apply powers of innovation and a long-term company policy to lay the groundwork for further growth. This is particularly crucial during economically difficult transformation processes of the kind we are now witnessing.”
