Introduces Powerful Communication And Collaboration Solution For Small- And Medium-Sized Business

Published Jul 8, 2010

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU announced the availability of a comprehensive, integrated, unified communication and collaboration (UCC) solution designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that extends robust office communication and information capabilities to employees wherever they are.

Customers who have an Alcatel-Lucent Office Communication Solution, consisting of the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Office and the Alcatel-Lucent Extended Communication Server (ECS), will benefit greatly from this free-of-charge extension, the Alcatel-Lucent Multimodal Communication Companion application. This application extends Web 2.0 communications including multiple voice and data communication capabilities of a desk phone to an Apple® iPhone®, making it a fully featured unified communication client. There is a companion application designed for Apple Macs and PCs that brings this same functionality to users’ laptops. Additional versions will be made available for other smart devices in the future.

“The Multimodal Communication Companion delivers an easy-to-use, free-of-charge iPhone application that better equips scattered workforces with a communications system that extends the capabilities of an advanced, office communication system to virtually anywhere,” said Eric Penisson, general manager, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Applications. “The application facilitates collaboration while stepping up efficiency, letting employees focus more time on meeting the needs of their customers and giving them access to the information they need when and where they need it. In fact, the iPhone application is available on the Apple App Store for immediate download.”

The Multimodal Communication Companion application makes it easy for employees who are away from the office to see if their colleagues are available through e-mail or by phone and even if they are using the phone for a call, enabling them to be more connected to the members of their teams. The system makes it possible for users to remotely access their contact lists, communication history, voice-mail, e-mail, faxes or a shared calendar, thus increasing employee productivity and efficiency for better business continuity and improved customer service. Users also have the ability to monitor and set up call forwarding options for their desk phone remotely. These features are valuable for companies promoting telecommuting as a way to minimize their carbon footprint.

Ideal for businesses with up to 200 employees, the Alcatel-Lucent Multimodal Communication Companion for iPhone and for Office are both free applications for new or existing ECS ( Extended Communication Server) customers.
