Ciena Establishes Operations In Saudi Arabia

Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), the network specialist, announced the opening of its office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The company also announced the appointment of Mr. Yasser Alobaidan as Country Manager heading up the operation.
The Ciena Communications Saudi Arabia Ltd office in Riyadh, announced less than one year after the company commenced operations in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has been established to cater to an emerging market with significant potential for growth during the next several years. “Data usage has quadrupled and broadband penetration has more than doubled in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the last three years,” said Mashood Ahmad, Regional Managing Director, Middle East at Ciena. “There is no doubt that Saudi offers meaningful prospects for further growth, which makes it a very exciting market to operate in. With Ciena’s global expertise and market leading product and services portfolio of converged optical Ethernet solutions, we are well positioned to play a key role in the rapidly developing communications infrastructure in KSA.”
Ciena appointed Mr. Yasser Alobaidan, a Saudi national, to take the helm of the company’s Saudi operation. Alobaidan has extensive experience in the telecommunications sector, having worked with companies such as Zain and Ericsson to help develop their business in KSA. Alobaidan has also played an instrumental role in the development of the Economic Cities Telecom Business Models and Business Plans in KSA.
In his new role at Ciena, Mr. Alobaidan will focus on developing relationships with Saudi telecom operators for Ciena’s products and services, as well as building a dedicated local team of specialists to serve these customers. He will also assume responsibility for local channel and service partnerships.
