Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Enviroserve, a public-private partnership with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, for the effective disposal and recycling of electronic scrap collected from its premises.
The MoU was signed by Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Senior VP of Engineering Management at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) and Stuart Fleming, CEO of Enviroserve at DSOA’s headquarters.
The agreement brings DSO in line with the International Environmental Standards in electronic waste/scrap management, and ensures that mobile phones and other obsolete electronics are disposed of environmentally-responsibly.
Commenting on this MoU, Eng. Muammar, said: “This MoU comes as part of our efforts to fulfill our corporate environmental responsibility on which we place significant importance. It is also in line with the UAE Government’s drive to introduce, monitor and develop green initiatives and environmental issues of relevance to the country.“
“While the advanced technological environment we offer is a unique one, it is equally important that we are proactive about green initiatives to ensure future generations enjoy the tech-innovations in a clean and healthy environment,” Eng. Muammar added.
“We are pleased to work with the region’s leading technology park. DSO has shown outstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility and is regularly taking up new initiatives”. Stuart Fleming said: “DSO has joined a growing list of companies we work with, companies that focus more and more on environment-related activities and raise awareness on green issues.”
In its role as an active supporter of green initiatives, DSO recently organized at Dubai Festival City the ‘Go Green’ campaign to mark the World Environmental Day 2010 in accordance with the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). The initiative enlisted the participation of 16 reputed organizations in Dubai such as Enviroserve, included tree planting activities around the technology park and cleaning up the community, and served to increase responsiveness to the environment and climate change.
Enviroserve is the only federally accredited and dedicated body in the Middle East offering services in electronic scrap management (e-scrap), refrigerant gas recovery and reclaim, and green audits.
Dubai Silicon Oasis is a wholly-owned entity of the Government of Dubai and operates as a free zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronic and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters and R&D facilities in the Middle East and Africa region.
