Global iDEN Network Hits 10 Million Subscribers Outside The United States

Published Aug 15, 2010

Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MOT) announced that its integrated Digital Enhanced Networks solution (iDEN) has reached 10 million subscribers outside the United States. With a strong and growing global presence, iDEN continues to be the leading, most efficient solution to deliver high-performance push-to-talk (PTT) services while also providing mobile telephony, messaging and Internet access.
Motorola’s proprietary iDEN technology is currently in operation with more than 30 network operators in 23 countries worldwide for the delivery of communications services. This recent milestone reinforces iDEN’s unique offerings in the wireless space, enabling the combination of two way radio capabilities with cellular phone technology, data and paging in one subscriber device. It is the ideal solution for small-to-large deployments for companies that need to instantly communicate with their mobile workforce.

“Motorola continues to develop and support our iDEN technology as a feature-rich, high-quality solution for our customers,” says Gene Delaney, executive vice president, Product & Business Operations, Motorola Solutions. “Furthermore, iDEN’s wide variety of communications services enables operators to serve many market segments with a single economical network solution.”

“The differentiated offering of iDEN technology and its PTT service is important to Motorola's consumers and business customers,” said Mark Shockley, senior vice president, Motorola Mobile Devices. “We continue to update our iDEN portfolio, and we’re excited to bring new products to market, such as the recently announced Motorola i1, the world’s first PTT Android™ powered smartphone.”

iDEN combines traditional mobile telephony with state-of-the-art PTT for the enterprise market. Motorola’s continued investment in iDEN has evolved the technology to meet the demands of worldwide PTT users today and into the future.
