R&M Enters The Second Half-Year On An Optimistic Note

At mid-year, the Swiss cabling solutions specialist Reichle & De-Massari AG (R&M, www.rdm.com) has every reason to be optimistic. In a number of key markets the sales figures, in particular in the second quarter, have recovered significantly. At CHF 91 million (EUR 66 million), the half-year figures are at the same level as the previous year. For the second half-year R&M expects a number of respectable orders from the Middle East/Africa and Asia/Pacific regions, where international network operators, telecoms companies and data processing centers are investing in new infrastructure. Ingo Kübler, who is about to up his position as the new Chief Sales Officer (CSO) for R&M, is expected to give a further boost to sales activities.
Developments in Germany and Switzerland, the two largest markets for the high quality cabling systems emanating from the family company domiciled in Wetzikon, are continuing at a high level. In the first half of 2010, R&M increased sales in Germany by 5.5% and in Switzerland by 3.8% compared with the previous year. In the rest of Europe, sales have failed to live up to expectations. With a plus of 16% the Middle East/Africa region was particularly successful. The Asia/Pacific region achieved a plus of 3.2%.
“Customers are continuing to exercise a certain amount of restraint with large projects being planned very cautiously”, reports CEO Martin Reichle on current market developments. Nevertheless, the Private Networks division (buildings, companies, clinics, data processing centers, industrial applications) was more successful in the first half-year than the Public Networks division (broadband and telecommunication networks). R&M is counting on a significant increase for the Public Networks division in the second half of the year. Demand for the innovative Cat. 6A connection module, which has set new standards for high performance copper cabling is particularly strong. The Single Circuit Management System that simplifies the management of large volumes of fiber optics in broadband providers’ distributors is about to be launched in the market. “The Single Circuit Management System also shows that our new developments fully correspond to the current needs of the market“, states Martin Reichle.
Fiscal year 2010 is dominated by the relocation to the company’s new building, the R&M cube. The new building in Wetzikon is to be officially opened in September. It is characterized by a CO2-neutral power supply and comfortable workplaces. The Middle East supply chain hub in Dubai is under construction. The logistics support hub is aimed at shortening delivery times and transport routes in the region and assembling specific cabling systems for customers on site. On July 1, R&M took over the Portuguese distribution partner LanCom Communications, Lda. The acquisition is intended to strengthen R&M’s presence in Portugal and expand business relationships.
