LG Inaugurates Us$ 15 Million Regional Learning Center

Published Aug 23, 2010

Bucking regional sentiment and the economic downturn, LG Electronics, a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances, inaugurated its purpose-built, three storey, 120,760 square feet training facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. The US$ 15 million investment is LG Electronics’ sixth Learning Centre in the world representing a major step forward in the development of industry standards in the Middle East.

The new LG Electronics MEA Learning Centre was inaugurated earlier today by key company officials including Mr K. W. Kim, CEO LG Electronics Middle East and Africa (MEA) and Mr Peter Stickler, Chief Human Resources Officer at LG Electronics who visited Dubai especially for this milestone event.

“The Learning Centre is the culmination of years of planning and development and I am honoured and proud to inaugurate the Centre,” said Mr Kim. “At LG, we seek to inspire our colleagues and partners to achieve the best of their potential and with a dedicated Learning Centre in the Middle East we will help them achieve that more efficiently than before.”

The opening of the new Learning Centre follows swiftly on from the opening of LG’s new 33,000 square feet regional office in May 2010 reinforcing the company’s continued commitment to the UAE and recognition of the importance LG places on the Middle East market.

Mr Kim added: “Since LG Electronics’ first office in the region opened in 1988 we have steadily grown to a company that now employs more than 1900 people in 14 subsidiaries servicing 78 markets in the Middle East and Africa. The LG MEA Learning Centre alone has provided employment opportunities for around 200 people.”

LG’s MEA Learning Centre comprises of a number of tailored training rooms, designated workshop rooms, lounges and offices. The centre has the capacity to train up to 175 people at full capacity and is projected to train 3,000 to 5,000 people a year.

Mr. Kim added: “The LG MEA Learning Centre is a major long term investment into elevating the knowledge and skill sets of LG employees and our partners across the Middle East and Africa.

The region is deeply unique and diverse and LG’s existing learning centres across the world are not able to satisfy the strong emphasis we place on learning and development here. This new centre will help to bring best practice training and international standards to all our partners and employees enhancing leadership skills and raising the levels of knowledge and customer service across the region.”

According to Mr Kim the region has experienced a tough 12 months, but LG has taken the bold step of investing and expanding ahead of the curve. He added: “We firmly believe this commitment will reap dividends in 2010 and beyond. The impact of this learning centre will be experienced by our customers and suppliers who will, I am sure, appreciate the efforts LG Electronics is making to improve ever further on the quality of service they receive.”
