Extreme Networks Welcomes Sourcefire As New Member Of Its Go Purple Partner Program To Enhance Network Security

Published Aug 24, 2010

Extreme Networks, Inc., a global leader in high performance networking, and Sourcefire the creators of Snort® and a leader in intelligent cyber-security solutions, announced that the companies are working together through Extreme Networks Go Purple™ Partner Program to provide dynamic, automated and secure network infrastructure.

Detecting threats and vulnerabilities has proven a challenge to global businesses that need to protect their assets, employees and revenues from being compromised by a variety of network threats. To this end, Sourcefire delivers industry-leading intrusion prevention solutions that can integrate with Extreme Networks® ExtremeXOS®-based BlackDiamond® and Summit® switching families. The combination of switching and intrusion detection results in a highly effective, real-time security awareness and response to threats and vulnerabilities.

As part of jointly carried-out product testing between the companies, the Sourcefire solution passed detailed event information directly to Extreme Networks Ethernet switches, allowing the combined system to detect, respond to, and mitigate threats dynamically and automatically while maintaining services across the network. The benefit of the combined solution is that network administrators can eliminate threats in real time and keep a detailed view of events occurring with users, devices and services across the network.

“We are working with Extreme Networks due to its commitment to leading edge network infrastructure that supports a deeper approach to security,” said Allen Male, Vice President, Strategic Accounts for Sourcefire. “The Go Purple program helps customers extend their choices to Sourcefire in locking down their networks. We have already integrated our IPS capabilities with Extreme Networks product line to help common customers meet their needs for a secure and robust network.”

“Extreme Networks and Sourcefire serve organizations who want to take back control of their networks with security solutions that offer intelligence and visibility,” said Aziz Ala’ali, Regional Director for Extreme Networks, Middle East & Africa. “Sourcefire Intrusion Prevention System and Real Time Network Awareness tools make for a best-in-class security portfolio.”

Extreme Networks high performance enterprise network solutions, including its award-winning Ethernet switches, are designed to provide organizations with scalable, flexible and secure networks that meet the needs of users, applications and converged communications.
