Intel, KACST Inaugurate Region’s First Center Of Excellence For Wireless Applications

Intel inaugurated the region’s first Center of Excellence for Wireless Applications (CEWA) in partnership with King Abduziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Intel line with Intel’s recent announcement of expanding its Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East and the company’s increased focus on building human capacity through enhancing education, inspiring innovation and promoting research.

The inauguration was conducted by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed ibn Ibrahim Al-Suwaiyel, President of KACST, and Thomas Kilroy, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group, in the presence of HH Prince Dr. Turki Saud Mohammad Al Saud, Chairman of CEWA and Vice President for Research Institutes of KACST, HH Prince Mohamed Ben Khaled ben AlAbdullah AlFaisal, Chairman of AlFaisaliah Group and a group of top government officials.

Commenting on CEWA, HH Prince Dr. Turki Saud Mohammad Al Saud said, “Research is a fundamental pillar to support Saudi Arabia’s diversifying economy and it is important for our universities and research institutions to work with global leaders like Intel in the Middle East. By partnering with Intel on CEWA, KACST has positioned itself at the forefront of the development of wireless technology, networks and applications for the region.”

The center’s key capabilities include offering expertise and consultative services to operators, governments, vendors and regulators to drive wireless applications and provide performance labs to evaluate and optimize wireless networks. In addition, CEWA is heavily geared toward research and development and offering managed services.

The CEWA initiative mirrors the three fundamental pillars of Intel’s Digital Transformation Initiative – that of fostering education, innovation and research, and will contribute to Intel’s commitment to developing the skill sets of the region’s future generations for the new knowledge economy.

Thomas Kilroy, Intel’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Sales and Marketing Group said the Center significantly enhanced Intel’s commitment to helping the Middle East develop the technology capacity of future generations. “Intel has given an undertaking, through its Digital Transformation Initiative, to be at the forefront of technology innovation and capacity building in the Middle East. CEWA gives us a unique and valuable facility to significantly accelerate research, learning and understanding of wireless technology.”

To enhance wireless technology knowledge and competency of individuals and organizations in the region, CEWA holds reference literature and up-to-date research papers and publications to support its high-end wireless technologies training and development programmers as well as provide a research resource for partners.
