Info2cell.com Presents Email Solution To Help Quash Spam At SecureComm’10

Info2cell.com, the leading mobile application content and service provider in the Middle East, recently participated in the 6th International ICST Conference on Security and Privacy in Communications Networks, in Singapore, during which Aram Yegenian, Info2cell.com Support Manager, presented the use of an Inexpensive Email Address (IEA) System, which has been developed as a new anti-spam system that can help reduce the growing proliferation of spam or unsolicited emails.
The proposed system cryptographically generates exclusive email addresses with the ability to establish a new address once the old one is compromised. The email solution comes as a welcome development in the global effort to quash the global level of spam incidence, which has been reported to have increased by 95 per cent in August 2010.
During his presentation, Yegenian explained the concept of the IEA and demonstrated its effectiveness as a strategic business and personal tool. The IEA system makes use of a stateless system of Disposable Email Addresses (DEA) that generates email addresses for individual use; once this email address receives an unsolicited message coming from an unwanted and unknown source, the system generates a newer email address and blocks the entry of the unwanted message. The email solution integrates a challenge-response mechanism that thoroughly screens all incoming emails before it is accepted by the system. The challenge mechanism, which is embedded inside the rejection notice of Standard Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) error messages, eliminates the unwanted message permanently unlike other challenge-response email systems.
Aram Yegenian, Info2cell.com Support Manager, said, “The proliferation of Spam or unsolicited emails has become a major web security concern that needs to be dealt with immediately. These emails may contain viruses, worms or malware that can not only damage endpoint devices like laptops, PCs and servers but can also easily obtain important data and information. The IEA system aims to reduce and eliminate the entry of unsolicited messages by making use of a simple yet effective disposable email method that automatically discards a compromised address and generates a newer one for use. The system can also run a trace on the unwanted message and find out where it came from.”
According to Symantec’s recent Messagelabs Intelligence Report, the percentage of spam sent from botnets has increased to 95 per cent in August 2010 from 84 per cent in April. The report also states that the global ratio of spam in email traffic from new and previously unknown bad sources was 92.2 per cent or one in 1.08 emails, while the global ratio for email borne viruses in email traffic from new and previously unknown bad sources was one in 327.6 emails (0.31 per cent).
