Published Oct 21, 2010

Optimus Technology and Telecommunications, a leading regional Value Added Distributor (VAD) of IT and telecommunications products, today announced that it has signed a strategic distribution agreement with BakBone Software, a leading provider of storage and data protection software. According to the terms of agreement, Optimus will be responsible for distributing BakBone’s range of data protection solutions with a focus on channel and market development across the GCC countries, Jordan and Egypt.

Commenting on the new partnership, Mr. Suraj Thampi, Group CEO, Optimus said, “We are delighted to add BakBone as the latest vendor to our growing portfolio of best-of-breed IT solutions. BakBone’s winning formula in helping organisations protect their data includes a straightforward focus not only on data protection but also on critical availability of that data. With a single point of control for managing resources across all platforms, BakBone’s solutions are well poised to offer better operational efficiencies and reliability, which is essential to business environments.”

“This partnership is very important to Optimus as it provides us access to a range of data protection solutions that has a very strong technical and vertical strength. BakBone’s products complement Optimus’ portfolio by allowing organisations to tackle issues such as managing disparate data sources and meeting compliance regulation. We are convinced that BakBone’s range of solutions will add tremendous value to our channel partners looking to offer world-class solutions to their customers,” Mr. Thampi added.

Over the years, BakBone Software has established its credentials as a vendor that can provide cost effective data management solutions, which ensures delivery of usable credible data for applications and real-time processes. With the strategic partnership with Optimus in place, BakBone is looking to further enhance its market share and visibility in Middle East markets by taking its message to prospective customers in enterprises as well as medium-sized businesses. As part of the overall relationship, Optimus has also been entrusted with creation and development of channels in the specified territory as well as enabling various marketing activities.

“The Middle East region is very important for BakBone. We were looking to engage with a seasoned distributor, who would help promote our products and help increase our market share in the region. We chose Optimus as our Middle East distributor as it not only has the market knowledge and expertise required to promote our products but it also has a strong channel network and an experienced team of professionals to drive our sales upwards in the region. We are confident this partnership with Optimus will help provide a momentum to our growth in the region,” said Mr. Eric Heddeland – Southern Region Director at BakBone.

Optimus offers its channel partners across the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan a single window solution for a wide spectrum of products catering to their entire technology and telecom needs. With its dedicated sales teams for the enterprise and SME businesses, Optimus provides design and sales assistance to all its partners and resellers in the country of their operations. Optimus also drives a 360 degree value system for its channel partners and vendors by helping them sell, implement, manage and support their customers and offering them 24x7 support. Optimus has started communicating with its channel partners about the new vendor tie-up and is planning initiatives such as road shows across major cities as part of its initial market development activities.
