Huawei Launches Innovative Android Smartphones In Egypt
Published Nov 1, 2010

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced the launch of three new Android devices in Egypt. The announcement is anchored by IDEOS, an affordable smartphone developed in cooperation with Google and powered by the latest iteration of Android 2.2 (also known as ‘Froyo’). In addition to IDEOS, Huawei is launching two other Android devices: the U8100 and the S7.
The three new Android devices expand upon Huawei’s long track record of product innovations since the company was founded in 1988. Huawei’s continued focus on and investment in customer-centric innovations have resulted in over 42,543 total patent filings and numerous top industry awards for product innovations. Consumers in the Egypt market already enjoy Huawei innovations—the V845 Android smartphone, the GSM G6600 Querty handset, and an array of other mobile & fixed broadband products—through Huawei’s partnership with leading operators and distributors including Mobinil, Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Misr, TE Data, Raya shops, Sphinx, and NTD.
Richard Ren is President of Device Business Unit of MENA Region, said, “We are excited to build on our successes in the Egypt market by expanding Huawei’s offering with a new generation of high-quality and innovative products. Going forward, Huawei will continue to leverage our global expertise and investment in research and development to launch more innovative products for consumers in this region.”
Ayman El Halaby, Raya Trade CEO, said, “Huawei is our trusted partner and we are thrilled to bring its latest wave of innovative Android devices to Egypt. We believe that we will get impressive business results from carrying Huawei’s cutting edge Android devices. Huawei’s commitment to innovation is unparalleled and these new products speak for themselves in that regard.”
Hailed as a groundbreaking product, IDEOS will be available in Egypt by December end through the leading consumer electronics distributor, Raya. The world’s first affordable smartphone, IDEOS comes pre-installed with Android 2.2 and can achieve downlink speeds of more than 7.2Mb/s. The device also doubles as a WiFi router for up to eight devices at a time, making IDEOS an all-in-one solution for a range of wireless connectivity options.
U8100 runs on the Android 2.1 platform, supports WCDMA/HSDPA BAND I, BAND Vlll and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 frequency bands, and offers a user-friendly soft keyboard and full touch screen. U8100 will be available in Egypt by the end of October.
S7 is a 7-inch tablet that runs on a 1GHz MSM8250 Snapdragon processor and comes with Android 2.1 installed. It supports WCDMA/HSPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE, voice communication, SMS, MMS, and email. At a weight of only 500 grams, it is a truly portable tablet solution.
Huawei Device’s increasing presence in the Egypt market is a reflection of its growing clout in the global handset market. The company’s shipment volume reached nearly 50 million units in the first half of 2010—a 39 percent year-on-year increase. This milestone was aided by the nearly 200 percent increase in the company’s global smartphone shipments during the first half of 2010, compared to the whole of 2009.
