The Acer Group HPC Strategies

Published Dec 8, 2010
Acer Group expects to achieve 25-30% of revenue coming from commercial business during 2011-2012. To achieve this goal, not only does Acer Group provide a complete range of corporate products but it has also developed and consolidated high-profile skills to become an ideal partner in optimizing integrated solutions.

Bolstered by these skills, Acer Group is looking to gain ground in one of the most demanding professional markets: High Performance Computing (HPC). Once a high level of Computational capacity was only needed in niche sectors. Now, HPC is required by a growing number of small, medium and large corporations in every market. Acer Group is now ready to enter this dynamic sector and believes in the development of HPC solutions and the benefits derived from the research, experimentation and simulations conducted with these systems.

Research demonstrates that in the professional sector High Performance Computing is one of the fastest growing IT sectors: in fact, according to the analysis firm IDC, the Supercomputer sector grew by 25% in 2009 while high-end HPC systems posted 65% growth rates despite the global recession.

Entering the HPC world is a new challenge that, as usual, the Acer Group faces with a clear and simple yet winning and effective strategy entrusted in Europe to Gateway, Acer Group’s brand exclusively dedicated to the professional world. Along with a global team of Acer Group experts, Gateway can also rely on support from key technological partners such as Intel, AMD, Microsoft, Nvidia, Hitachi, Qlogic and Platform Computing. Thanks to these partnerships, Gateway is able to create custom HPC solutions to meet the different needs of each customer.

Gateway’s business product range includes a complete line of solutions specifically designed for High Performance Computing such as blade and modular servers and high performance storage: systems where power, scalability, user friendliness, reduced energy consumption and simple administration guarantee significant economic benefits and maximum return on investment.
In parallel with the development of specific products and solutions, Gateway has reached agreements with world-leading research centres, such as the University of Pisa, with the goal of creating a state-of-the-art HPC platform capable of allowing the simulation and experimentation of tailormade solutions for the clients of their own channel partners.

In fact, Gateway HPC Competence Center at Pisa University is in full swing, validating HPC Products/Solutions with different software scenarios, including automotive, finance, manufacturing, biochemical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, and academic.

“The objective of Gateway is to provide truly market leading solutions that help channel partners effectively satisfy the needs of the end users who are continually seeking adequate combinations of energy efficiency, high-performance, and scalability," comments Sean Stacey, Business Development Manager EMEA-Technical & Productivity Computing. “This is why we are focusing on simplifying HPC with the idea of offering scalable, high-performance solutions that reduce complexity and improve the TCO for implementing and managing HPC systems.”

What will allow the Acer Group to attain market trust will once again be the coherence of its own sales strategy - 100% indirect - and the possibility to count on a specialised channel where Gateway provides full support, thanks to a specific and exclusive programme for business clients only. The channel and the partners will play a fundamental role in accurately communicating user demands in order to continue offering solutions designed to meet their needs.
