UAE Leads The Way In Mobile TV And Video Consumption

Published Dec 14, 2010

UAE viewers are the most enthusiastic for TV on mobile devices, according to the Motorola Mobility’s 2010 Media Engagement Barometer, an independent global study of video consumption habits among 7,500 consumers in 13 markets carried out by research agency Vanson Bourne.

Reinforcing the notion that viewers in the UAE are progressive when it comes to how they consume video content, out of the markets surveyed, the UAE led the pack in terms of mobile TV and video. More than half of respondents said that it was either very or quite important for them to be able to watch free-to-air and subscription content on a device when they were outside the home.

“Motorola is continuing to enhance and broaden its mobile devices portfolio in the Middle East to provide innovative, high-performance smartphones that deliver consumers a wide range of Internet services to cater for demand for media on the go,” said Mahmoud Sayed Ahmed, Marketing Director for mobile devices at Motorola Middle East.

According to the results, the television, while still the primary viewing device, is fighting for eyeballs with a range of other screens. Fifty two percent of the sample said they watched TV and video on laptops, 31 percent on desktops and 13 percent used either smartphones and/or tablet devices.
