In a sign of its commitment to foster innovation among Egyptian tech developers and entrepreneurs, Google hosted its first ever ‘G-Egypt Days” event at the Dusit Thani Hotel. Its goal was to encourage the creation of local content and applications for the Arab region.
Nelson Mattos, Google Vice President of Product Management and Engineering for Europe, Middle East and Africa, gave a keynote speech.
“Egypt is home to a young, creative and ambitious community of developers, which we are reaching out to through our G-Egypt Days program,” said Google’s Mattos. “Today, less than 1% of the Internet’s content in Arabic. We are committed to increasing the proportion of Arabic content, games and applications. It is important we focus on building and supporting the vibrant tech communities. The G-Egypt Days event is the first of many to encourage more developers, academics, and business professionals in the industry to become involved in creating Arabic content.”
This web and mobile themed conference focused on Google’s developer and business technologies - including Chrome Extensions, App Engine, and Google Analytics to mobile and AdWords. Attendees received an opportunity to explore Google’s open source technologies through a combination of tech talks, breakout sessions and codelabs run by some of Google’s best and most engaging engineers, product specialists and business managers who flew in from around the world.
Google welcomed participants ranging from professional developers and webmasters to small business entrepreneurs, computer science professors and students.
G-Egypt Days are designed to provide an informal environment in which local participants can engage in open dialogue with technology and product experts as they experience Google technologies. All those who attended were encouraged to apply what they have learned to their individual communities and businesses in an effort to provide a more localized context to cloud computing, application development and mobile technologies.
