HTC Announces Saudi Arabia Launch Of Desire HDTM And HD7, First Windows Phone 7

Published Dec 20, 2010

HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, has announced at a press conference in Jeddah, the Saudi Arabian launch of the HTC Desire HDTM and the first Microsoft Windows Phone 7 device, the HTC HD7.

The Android-based HTC Desire HDTM embodies the HTC Sense 2.0 experience and introduces a number of key innovations including a series of free connected services called htcsense.com that enhances people’s mobile experience on HTC phones. The HTC Desire HDTM brings in new features and high-tech improvements to one of HTC's most successful ranges of smartphone models.

The feature-packed HTC HD7 on the other hand comes with a 4.3 inch WVGA TFT capacitive touch screen, and is also equipped with a 5 mega pixel camera with dual LED flash with auto focus and HD video features. As for data transfer, the device is supported with 802.11 wifi, Bluetooth and an AGPS/GPS system.

Windows Phone 7 was designed to deliver a mobile experience that has the phone working better for people, bringing together the things they care about most and helping them to get things done faster. Windows Phone 7 breaks the current smartphone convention to help people quickly and easily find and consume data, information and services from the Web and applications. For example, the customizable Start screen with Live Tiles is a personal experience, showing people their own content. The Live Tiles come to life with real-time updates from the Web such as news, appointments or the status of friends. New Live Tiles can be easily created from whatever content a user wants, such as applications, websites and music. Windows Phone 7 devices also come pre-loaded with Microsoft Office Mobile, One Note Mobile and SharePoint.

Mohamed Kais Zribi, Regional Manager of HTC Middle East and North Africa, said: "Customers in Saudi Arabia have been eagerly awaiting the launch of these new models. As far as the HTC Desire HD is concerned, I am confident that they will fully appreciate the new features and applications that we have introduced, especially its more engaging, intuitive, user-friendly design. We have likewise retained the attention-grabbing features of the phone, taking advantage of the powerful Android platform and the latest version of HTC Sense2.0, which has become a major hit among smartphone users."

“As for the HTC HD7, this will be a whole new mobile experience for users thanks to Windows Phone 7. The HD7 is packed with features that will excite and engage users, who will also hugely benefit from the level of customization that the phone offers, which is designed to help users find and use the features optimally and easily,” he added.

Neeraj Seth, MENA Marketing Manager, HTC Middle East & North Africa, said, “The Saudi market has always been extremely receptive to HTC products which makes the Kingdom vital to our market consolidation plans in the region. We believe that the feature-rich HTC Desire and HD7 will particularly appeal to the country’s young, tech savvy population, and accordingly HTC plans to market these phones very innovatively to this segment.”

"HTC has major plans for the KSA market, given its strategic importance to our overall scheme of things in the region. Over the coming period, we will be making significant investments on branding and promotion-related initiatives to create greater visibility for our brand and further build on our ‘connect’ with our growing customer base in the Kingdom," Kais concluded.

-New HTC Sense 2.0

The new HTC Sense experience offers a variety of enhancements that improve how people capture, create, share and access multimedia content. With a newly created camera experience, people can record HD videos or capture and edit images with a variety of fun camera effects. With HTC Location, a new differentiated online mapping experience, people have instant, on-demand mapping without download delays or mobile roaming charges.

HTC Sense includes a new integrated online e-reading experience utilizing a new e-book store powered by Koboand a new, mobile optimized e-reader that includes the ability to highlight, annotate and quickly search for definitions or translate unfamiliar terms.

-HTCSense.com

With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to emit a loud whistle or to flag its location on a map. If the phone’s been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send the phone a message to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it. HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.

-HTC Desire HD

HTC Desire HD showcases outstanding multimedia content with its bright 4.3” LCD display and Dolby/SRS sound and is the first to be powered by the new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor. The HTC Desire HD enables 720p HD video recording and includes an 8-megapixel camera with dual-flash. Building on the unibody heritage of the HTC Legend, the HTC Desire HD is sculpted from a block of solid aluminum and exudes the air of quality and strength that HTC has come to be known. It also includes HTC’s new Fast Boot functionality that enables people to quickly make a call or check emails by shortening the time needed to complete the power-up sequence.

Earlier this year, HTC launched a series of models in the Middle East including the HTC Desire; HTC Legend, an Android-powered smartphone that also incorporates an enhanced HTC Sense2.0 experience; HTC Smart, a smartphone that offers easy-to-use widgets, browsing and connectivity at an affordable price; HTC HD2, the first Windows phone with HTC Sense2.0; HTC HD mini, an HTC Sense-based Windows Phone focused on delivering the popular experience of the HTC HD2 in a more compact design; and HTC Tattoo, an Android-based phone that brings broad personalisation to the masses.
